At this time, the horror genre is experiencing a horrifying and invigorating revival. We love supernatural ghost stories, fake blood, gore and jump scares all year round, so it’s great that so many terrifying horror films are on the horizon. Whether it’s the return of popular franchises like Scream and The Exorcist or unique horrors from Jordan Peele and M. Night Shyamalan, you’ve got many scary flicks to look forward to.

The Jeepers Creepers film franchise is among those making a comeback, with a new film titled Jeepers Creepers: Reborn. As reported by Screen Media Films, the film will have a “Special Three-Night Fan Event” from September 19 to September 21. In Reborn, a lady named Laine has her boyfriend dragged her to a HorrorHound festival in Louisiana. She starts having dreams that she believes are related to the urban legend of The Creeper. According to director Timo Vuorensola, this film kicks off a brand-new trilogy in the Jeepers Creepers universe.

Don’t Worry Darling – September 23, 2022

The actress and filmmaker is back in the director’s chair after her first feature film, Booksmart, to helm a thriller starring Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan and Nick Kroll. Pugh plays a 1950s housewife who learns that her husband (Styles) has been keeping a secret from her all along: that they live in a utopian experimental community. Following her impressive turn in Midsommar, audiences are eager to see what else Pugh and Wilde’s promising directing career has in store.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism – September 30, 2022

My Best Friend’s Exorcism stars Elsie Fisher from Eighth Grade and is based on the 2016 best-selling book of the same name by Grady Hendrix. Best friend Gretchen (Amiah Miller), played by Fisher, is possessed by a demon in this 1988 film. Abby is so dedicated to assisting her pal that she visits a mall exorcist (Christopher Lowell) for help in banishing the demon. With an Amazon Prime membership, you’ll be able to watch this black comedy/horror flick instantly.

Smile – September 30, 2022

Paramount will release the horror film Smile this fall, starring Sosie Bacon (As We See It) as a doctor who, after a tragic episode with a patient, begins to experience terrifying phenomena, such as seeing individuals around her flash unnerving grins at her. Parker Finn, a newcomer to the filmmaking scene, directed and starred in Smile, which also featured Kyle Gallner and Kal Penn.

A new Hellraiser film, with Sense8’s Jamie Clayton in the lead role of the demonic creature Pinhead, is another thrilling prospect for horror fans. Following the success of the 1987 cult classic, a sequel film starring Hiam Abbass, Goran Visnjic and Brandon Flynn will debut on Hulu this year. This Hellraiser has its original writer/director Clive Barker as a producer with direction from The Night House and The Ritual’s David Bruckner.

Halloween Ends – October 14, 2022

David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy will come to a close in 2022 with Halloween Ends. After the bloodshed of Halloween Kills, Jamie Lee Curtis will reprise her role as Laurie Strode for one final showdown with Michael Myers. Reportedly picking up four years after the events of Halloween Kills, this film will conclude the scream queen’s classic narrative.

Prey For The Devil – October 28, 2022

Prey For The Devil, formerly known as The Devil’s Light, is a supernatural horror film about a 25-year-old nun who sees exorcism as her divine mission. Unfortunately, sisters are not permitted to carry them out on their own. When she finally tracks down someone to exorcise, she takes matters into her own hands and finds herself up against a demonic power with mysterious ties to her own past. This horrific picture starring Jacqueline Byers, Virginia Madsen and Ben Cross has been pushed back from early 2022 to the Halloween season.

Wendell & Wild – October 28, 2022

According to Netflix, Jordan Peele is working on another horror film called Wendell & Wild, which is scheduled for release in October. This time around, Peele has recruited his Key & Peele writing and acting partner Keegan-Michael Key. A stop-motion cartoon film, “Wendell & Wild” will follow two demon brothers as they take on their sworn enemy, Sister Helly and her two goth teenagers, Kat and Raoul.

The Menu – November 18, 2022

In theaters this fall comes The Menu, a horror comedy starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Ralph Fiennes and John Leguizamo. The film follows Taylor-Joy and Hoult, a young couple who travel to an isolated island to dine at a five-star restaurant owned by a celebrity chef (Fiennes) and experience his cuisine as if it were conceptual art. There are surprises in store for the couple as they explore the island’s cuisine.

Modern horror fans may recognize James Wan’s name from his work on the Conjuring films and his most recent film, Malignant. M3GAN, released in the early 2023, is based on the director’s own story and was written by Akela Cooper. Gemma, played by Allison Williams of Get Out, is a roboticist who creates a realistic doll to serve as both a child’s best friend and a parent’s best ally in this sci-fi horror film. Gemma decides to turn on the M3GAN prototype after she is granted legal custody of her orphaned niece. The film will be released to audiences.

Last Voyage Of The Demeter – January 27, 2023

Last Voyage of Demeter is the follow-up horror film from 2019’s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark director André vredal. Bram Stoker’s Dracula, published in 1897, serves as inspiration for the film’s solitary chapter. The story will follow the crew of the Russian schooner Demeter as they sail from Carpathia to London while being terrorized by an unknown entity. Film stars include In the Heights’ Corey Hawkins and The Suicide Squad’s David Dastmalchian.

Unwelcome – January 27, 2023

Unwelcome is an Irish horror film directed by Jon Wright, who is bringing the haunting home.

Douglas Booth of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Hannah John-Kamen of Ant-Man and the Wasp play Londoners who decide to relocate to rural Ireland. However, bloodthirsty goblins and other monsters lurk in the forests nearby. Expectedly scary and entertaining, Unwelcome appears to be a promising horror film.

Knock At The Cabin – February 3, 2023

M. Night Shyamalan has yet another movie in the works following Old’s release in summer 2021. The apocalyptic home invasion horror film starring Guardian of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista, Mindhunter’s Jonathan Groff and Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint has already cast its three lead actors. The creator of the Sixth Sense and the Glass trilogies is about to release another original film, Knock At The Cabin.

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette were among the returning cast members, along with several newcomers, for the big 2022 comeback of the Scream franchise. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, together with writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, will return to the franchise after the success of the first film, “Scream,” both critically and financially. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega will reprise their roles as the Carpenter sisters and the film will pick up with them leaving Woodsboro along with Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Unfortunately, Neve Campbell won’t be back.

Renfield – April 14, 2023

The film Renfield, a darkly humorous horror flick, will star Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula. He is a vampiric henchman for Nicolas Hoult’s character. Renfield’s life is given a second chance when he falls in love with a traffic cop played by Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina). Bess Rous, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Ben Schwartz are also in the cast. Chris McKay, director of The Tomorrow War, is set to helm this film.

Salem’s Lot – April 21, 2023

After the success of adaptations like It, another Stephen King novel is filmed. Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Spencer Treat Clark, Alfre Woodard, William Sadler and Pilou Asbaek are among the cast members of Gary Dauberman’s film adaptation of the 1975 novel Salem’s Lot, which he is directing. In pursuit of new material, a writer visits his hometown, only to discover that it is being haunted by a vampire.

Insidious 5 – July 7, 2023

Patrick Wilson is set to direct and star in the upcoming fifth Insidious film. This will be Wilson’s directorial debut. Wilson will reprise his role as Scott Teems. Leigh Whannell, who will direct The Invisible Man in 2020, wrote the script for this terrifying picture. Rose Byrne will reprise her role as Dalton Lambert’s mother, while Ty Simpkins will assume the role of Dalton while he attends university.

The Exorcist – September 15, 2023

After the success of the Halloween trilogy, David Gordon Green, Universal and Blumhouse Productions have reunited to tackle another horror classic: The Exorcist. This film will follow directly on the heels of the first Halloween from 1973. Both Ellen Burstyn and Leslie Odom Jr. of Hamilton fame will be featured. The first installment in a new horror trilogy, so the rumor goes.

John Krasinski has done an excellent job of creating a fascinating and terrifying universe in which humans have been invaded by aliens and must keep quiet if they hope to survive. With the box office success of A Quiet Place Part II and the ongoing epidemic, a third installment of the franchise is scheduled for release in 2023.

We can assume that Michael Sarnoski, director of Pig and the Quiet Place spinoff, will explore the beginnings of the invasion in this film, which will be a standalone film based on an idea by Krasinski. The third Quiet Place film from the core franchise is slated for 2025.
