Chargers WR Keenan Allen Unlikely to Play Thursday vs Chiefs

Due to a hamstring injury, the Los Angeles Chargers’ star wide receiver Keenan Allen is probably out against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

Allen is not expected to play during the short week, according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, but there is hope following tests that his ailment is not a long-term problem.

Later on Tuesday, head coach Brandon Staley addressed the media and stated that Allen would need some time to recover from his hamstring injury and didn’t appear suitable for him to play against the Chiefs. Still, he wouldn’t completely rule anything out just yet.

After getting hurt, Allen could not finish the Chargers’ Week 1 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Before leaving, he grabbed four catches for 66 yards, including one for 42 yards.

It’s not unexpected that Allen won’t play Thursday because Los Angeles is traveling to Kansas City on a short week. The talented wideout is hoped to recover quickly as there is more time until the Chargers play the Jaguars on Sept. 25.

Given that Allen is anticipated to miss Week 2, Josh Palmer and Mike Williams are projected to receive more targets from quarterback Justin Herbert.

The Chargers receivers who play on Thursday will probably be up against a weak Chiefs defense. Trent McDuffie, a first-round rookie cornerback with a hamstring injury, was placed on injured reserve by Kansas City.
