Biden Backs Bill to Disclose Super PAC Donors: The Senate will vote on a bill requiring the disclosure of super PAC donors later this week. According to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who announced on Monday.
In a statement, Schumer thanked the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I. ), and stated, “Today, I am announcing the Senate will vote this week to take up a measure crucial to combatting the disease of dark money in our elections: the DISCLOSE Act.”
With the DISCLOSE Act, which Whitehouse introduced earlier in April, super PACs and other dark money organizations will have to disclose any contributors who give $10,000 or more during an election season. President Biden gave the proposal his support on Tuesday.
Dark money destroys public confidence. In remarks at the White House, Biden stated, “We need to erode public trust, and I’m determined to do that. Dark money has increased in our politics so much. I think the best disinfectant is sunlight.”
The most excellent donation to a political advocacy group in American history, $1.6 billion, came from a conservative activist who fought to repeal Roe v. Wade, as highlighted by Biden. Only because of reporting by the New York Times was the donation found.
Too much money is moving covertly to impact our elections. It is known as dark money. It’s buried. He said that advocacy groups could broadcast political advertisements without identifying their funding until election day.
Schumer continued, “When was the last time we heard voters argue that billionaires and special interests should purchase elections in secret, rather than being held accountable to the general public?” They don’t believe that! Unless they are the ones writing the millions of dollars checks themselves.
According to Schumer, the law ensures Americans know those attempting to sway elections. He cited a recent Supreme Court decision as the inspiration for this claim.
Today, President Biden plans to plug a Senate bill that would require super PACs and so-called “dark money” groups to disclose donors who give $10,000 or more during an election cycle. https://t.co/83k2IZrsLX

According to Schumer, “their decision has opened the door for billions in limitless campaign donations from Super PACs and other dark money entities over the previous decade.” “Elites with millions to spare for political donations have drowned out the voices of ordinary folks.”
