She explained how her childhood aspiration to one day alter the album’s production so she could hop between the styles of her many musical influences came true.
Over two decades ago (in the year 1999), I composed my first song. I always hoped that one day I’d be able to switch up the soundscapes of my albums and explore the musical landscapes of my many influences. I had anticipated that, eventually, people wouldn’t bat an eye at works that straddle multiple genres.
There’s a lot of talk about different types of music, but it always seems to circle back to the same two topics: melody and production. But then there’s the lyrical, which is probably my favorite aspect of songwriting,” she remarked. She even described the methods by which she had covertly formed genre categories for the lyrics she had written, such as the ‘Quill’ style, for several of her songs.
And I’ve never spoken of this in public before because, well, it’s geeky,” she continued. Of course, behind the scenes, I also have genre classifications for the songs I write to set up in my head. Indeed, there are three of them. Quill Lyrics, Fountain Pen Lyrics, and Glitter Gel Pen Lyrics are the endearing names we’ve given them.
