Prince William and Kate Middleton Thank Staff and Volunteers After the Queen’s Funeral

Kate Middleton and Prince William are thanking the people who helped make Queen Elizabeth’s service of commitment possible. The Queen who made history was laid to rest three days ago.

On Monday, the Prince and Princess of Wales, who are both 40, met volunteers and staff who helped with the Queen’s funeral at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. They also helped the crowds gathered after Queen Elizabeth’s death on September 8 to pay tribute to her.

In 2020, when there was a coronavirus pandemic, Queen Elizabeth moved her home from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle. She spent most of her last years at the royal home but died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland which was her usual summer vacation spot.

An insider told PEOPLE that the Queen’s loyal personal staff is “devastated” by her death. “They are incandescent with grief,” the insider says. “However much you are prepared for it, after a lifetime of service, it was still a terrible shock.”

On Monday morning, 2,000 people, including royals and world leaders from all over the world, attended the Queen’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey in London. After the funeral, a smaller ceremony was held at her gravesite.

About 800 people went to the burial service for the Queen. It was a more personal event than the state funeral. Some people who knew the Queen best will be sitting in the pews.

Along with family members, the congregation included past and present members of the Queen’s Household, including those from the private estates. The governors-general and prime ministers of Commonwealth countries were also there.

Queen Elizabeth was laid to rest with her husband Prince Philip, father King George VI, mother Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and sister Princess Margaret in the King George VI Memorial Chapel later on Monday.

Two days after the Queen died, Prince William and Kate went outside Windsor with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to see the flowers, notes, and other tributes people had left at the palace.

In a video shared on TikTok and Instagram, Kate told a well-wisher, “It’s very strange being here without Her Majesty,” referring to Windsor Castle.
