Miranda Lambert’s Las Vegas residency show is on fire even without “Kerosene.” On Friday, Lambert who is 38 years old started her Velvet Rodeo show at Planet Hollywood’s Zappos Theater.
There were many fireworks and a 90-minute lesson in modern country music. “O.M.G., we made it!” the country superstar remarked during her set. “We’ve been rehearsing for so long.”
In the first of her 24 shows in Vegas, Lambert’s voice shone as she moved smoothly through her wide range of songs. Not only did she play old favorites like “Famous in a Small Town” from 2007 but the western-themed “If I Was a Cowboy” from her new Palomino album showed how much she has grown.
Lambert surprised her fans when, during “Gunpowder & Lead,” sparklers shot out of the jacket’s sleeves. Still while the fire was going Lambert focused on how beautiful the show was.

Her stripped-down version of “Tin Man,” complete with white spotlights, was magical as was her soothing live performance of “Bluebird,” which fit the bill as blue lasers filled the room.
And it wasn’t a surprise that her version of “Drunk” sounded like a karaoke session, with the crowd singing Elle King’s part of the pop song as a whole.
On Friday, right before she went on stage Miranda Lambert wrote on Instagram that she was going to take the Velvet Rodeo show to new heights. She did just that before “Mama’s Broken Heart” when she took a lift to the stage.

Lambert’s show is one of several country residencies that have been held at Zappos. Florida Georgia Line will be there and Shania Twain just finished a three-year run there on September 10.
Even though Lambert’s residency is set for 24 shows she said she would be in Vegas for “two years.” This means that “The Fastest Girl in Town” may already be staying longer in Sin City.
