8:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘The Voice!” In Episode 2, Blake rebounded from the season opener and recruited four performers. As many as Gwen and John. Blake has one more artist than Camila. Only he hasn’t pressed “Block.” Tonight? Discover!
8:02 p.m. – Andrew Igbokidi, a 22-year-old Nigerian-American from Arkansas, auditioned first. Andrew’s rendition of “after the party’s done” was a turning point between music and medicine. Gwen, Blake, and Camila all click their buttons after hearing one line. John then made it a four-chair turn. Gwen was impressed by Andrew’s emotive combination of genres. John was “intrigued” by his choices and contacted him about his West African collaborations. Camila praised his song choice, tone, and performance quality. Blake promised Andrew a special spot on his team, but he chose Camila.
8:13 p.m. – Cara Brindisi sang to her grandfather with Alzheimer’s and later worked in hospice. Cara hoped to get Blake’s chair turn with “All Too Well,” but both Gwen and Blake turned for her. Camila battled for Cara to pick Blake because she loves storytelling, and Blake enjoys her southern twang. Gwen loves Cara’s singer-songwriter style and wants to collaborate with her. Cara surprised herself by joining Team Gwen.
8:24 p.m. – Florida pharmacist Billy Craver auditioned with “She Got the Best of Me.” Blake and the other coaches ignored Billy. Blake said he liked his tone and pitch, but not his language. Gwen praised his vibrato, but he was off.
8:30 p.m. – Valarie Harding‘s family claims she never stops singing, even while they run a sound/event company together. Music was in Valarie’s blood and consumed her life, so it was no wonder that John and Gwen wanted her on their teams. Gwen said Valarie’s timing is “slow in a nice way” and her nature shows in her performance. John enjoyed her vibrato and felt she refreshed a classic tune with her runs and riffs. It was easy for Valarie to join Team Legend.
8:40 p.m. – Second tonight was equestrian rider Julia Aslanli with “Let’s Stay Together.” Gwen liked Julia’s voice instantly and turned her chair. In the end, Gwen was the only chair to turn, therefore Julia joined her team automatically. Camila didn’t flip because the song wasn’t engaging, while Gwen thought Julia was the season’s best.
8:50 p.m. – The Dryes is a country duo from Nashville. Blake wanted them when Katelyn joined Derek on “Islands in the Stream,” but Gwen didn’t give in easy. Blake’s presentation comprised dad jokes, but he liked them based on Derek’s voice because they’re so country. The Dryes complimented Gwen, who called them cute and said she can help them cross genres. Despite loving Gwen, the Dryes joined Team Blake.
9:03 p.m. – Ava Lynn Thuresson, 18, sang “… Baby One More Time” to start the second hour. Camila waited a while before clicking her button, but she ultimately joined John, who had touched his earlier. Camila stated she’s searching for musicians who perform covers differently and liked her grungy take. John praised her “rock star” voice and self-assured, poised delivery. Ava Lynn was overwhelmed by the coaches’ joy but chose Team Camila.
9:16 p.m. – Next up was Florida videographer Madison Hughes, who didn’t know how to sing despite playing guitar since childhood. She auditioned with “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” which Blake, Gwen, and Camila liked. Again, Camila noted the “juxtaposition” of genres in Madison’s country rock song. She was particularly delighted to see Madison sing on the show and bond over “The X Factor.” Blake was startled that Madison had strayed so far from the country because “country is what you say.” Gwen liked that she’s a “melting pot” with a genre-hopping career. Madison joined Blake’s team to avoid the melting pot.
9:27 p.m. – Sasha Hurtado’s “River” audition wowed John and Camila, while Blake and Gwen stayed out. Sasha informed them she sings at venues and hopes to make a career in pop music. John was impressed and sang some Spanish tunes. Camila recognizes parallels in Sasha and can help her see where she can go. Once again, Camila overcame John, and Sasha joined her squad.
9:40 p.m. – Because of his enormous family, Dominic Patrick stated every occasion was like a concert. With “U Got It Bad,” Dominic failed to impress the coaches. Camila stated he was gifted, but she didn’t turn because she wanted to hear his voice. John agreed with Gwen that he sings big, but the song didn’t show it off.
9:50 p.m. – The night ended with Morgan Taylor singing “Cuz I Love You.” Blake stunned Gwen by turning instantly, but she, John, and Camila all pressed their buttons. Blake was excited when he heard she lived in Nashville, but Morgan said she’s not a country singer. Morgan wanted to perform soulful pop, but Camila noted how hard it was to cover a Lizzo song. She gave her ideas on supporting notes she didn’t make and stated she can help her.
Gwen says Morgan was born to sing and she wants to help her bring out her personality and power. John told her she has a powerful soprano voice and suggested she switch tunes. Blake stated he knows the show better than the other coaches and recognized her voice mattered the moment she opened her mouth. John beat Camila and the other judges to get one of the season’s hottest artists.
