Angelina Jolie Claims in Lawsuit that Brad Pitt Physically Abused Her And Their Children: Jolie describes a confrontation on a private jet in 2016 in a countersuit she filed on Tuesday in a legal battle over a winery they once co-owned, during which she claims Pitt “choked one of the children” and “hit another in the face” while verbally abusing them.
In the complaint, it is claimed that Pitt “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again, before slamming her into the bathroom wall.” Pitt allegedly attempted to coerce Jolie into signing a nondisclosure agreement that would have “contractually barred her from commenting outside of court about Pitt’s physical and mental abuse of her and their children,” according to the lawsuit.
Requests for feedback from Pitt’s counsel and agents went unanswered. The charges are the most recent development in a court dispute Pitt and Jolie started in 2012 over ownership of the French vineyard Château Miraval.
He charges Jolie with breaking an unspoken agreement that they would not each sell their ownership interests in the company without the other’s approval. Jolie claims that before the family arrived at the airport, Pitt confronted one of their children and began acting aggressively.
Jolie inquired as to what was wrong, and he “verbally attacked her” for being too submissive in response. A physical altercation started when one of the kids supported Jolie.
The complaint claims that Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him. Pitt injured Jolie’s back and elbow as he hurled himself back into the airplane seats to help Jolie off his back. The young people dashed in and valiantly attempted to defend one another.
According to the complaint, Pitt allegedly spilled beer on Jolie at one time and wine and beer on the kids at another. According to the lawsuit, when Jolie informed Pitt that she and the kids were checking into a hotel after the plane landed, Pitt yelled at her and shoved her to the ground.
The complaint states that “He also grabbed and shook Jolie by the head and shoulders, leading one of the kids to beg, “Don’t hurt her.” He let Jolie go but later referred to her as a “bitch” and said, “Fuck you, fuck you all.”
Although the FBI opened an inquiry into the incident, no charges were brought. The investigating agent determined there was probable cause to pursue a criminal case, but charges would not be filed owing to “many considerations,” according to a redacted report on the case that was released in August, according to The New York Times.
It stated that Jolie was “contemplating whether or not to support the claims.” After learning that the majority of her post-divorce assets were invested in Château Miraval, Jolie claims she started to look for a more active role in the winery.
Pitt, however, allegedly effectively blocked her from doing so. He allegedly shut her off from financial information and, without her consent, redirected all proceeds to the winery and his personal endeavors.
Given the effects of “Pitt’s recognized problem of alcohol consumption on their family” and her growing discomfort with her involvement in an alcohol-related business, Jolie opted to sell her portion of the company after accepting that Pitt would not share ownership of the vineyard.
Negotiations reportedly went down after Jolie claimed that Pitt had assaulted her and their children in closed court hearings related to their child custody dispute, despite the two sides having reportedly negotiated an agreement worth $54.5 million for Pitt to buy out her part.
Returning later, he demanded that Jolie be “bound by a broad non-disparagement clause that would forbid Jolie from discussing outside of court any of Pitt’s personal behavior toward her or the family.”
“Jolie could not take any more abuse,” the complaint reads. “Coming on top of the terrible breakup of their family and the years spent attempting to rebuild their family — during which time she never spoke publicly about the circumstances that led to their separation.”
Jolie made the decision to delegate the negotiations to her chosen representatives and allow them to decide how to close any sale in order to protect her own mental health and well-being.

For $67 million, Jolie’s agents sold a subsidiary of the international beverage company Stoli Group her 50% stake in the winery. Jolie had requested information under the Freedom of Information Act on the FBI’s decision not to file charges.
The Central District of California U.S. Attorney’s Office, which includes Los Angeles, declined to comment.
