Why Did Remy Ma Go To Jail?
There have been persistent suspicions that Remy Ma was responsible for the incident that landed her in prison in 2007. The Bronx actress appeared on “The Wendy Williams Show” on Thursday (April 1), where she talked about her personal development and pregnancy rumors.
While discussing Remy’s incarceration, the talk show presenter brought up allegations from the past that she did time for her involvement in the shooting of a lady named Makeda Barnes-Joseph, who was supposedly a friend of Remy’s.
The emcee denied having pulled a gun on anyone when she was probed about her justification for the gunfire. She firmly asserted, “I didn’t shoot anyone.” Remy admitted that she did not know the woman, saying that she learned the woman’s surname along with the rest of the world.
Do y’all think the district attorney, the judge, and the jury always get it right? No. Wendy was told, “They didn’t.” Didn’t know this person, she wasn’t my best friend, and nothing written about her over the years is accurate. But once you’re inside bars, nobody cares. Not me!
In 2007, Remy and Barnes-Joseph got into a fight that made the news. After realizing she was missing $3000, she allegedly shot her longtime buddy. Barnes-Joseph also claimed that the emcee had shot her on purpose, although she denied this during her trial.
According to Remy’s attorney, she was distraught at the theft of $3,000 and the subsequent realization that her gun had accidentally discharged while she and Barnes fought over her purse.
Despite her protestations of innocence, Remy was found guilty of assault with purpose, possession of a weapon, and attempted coercion and given an eight-year jail sentence. After serving six years in jail, she was given early release and became a free woman in 2016. On August 1, 2019, she was no longer under post-release monitoring.
