Chris Pratt’s Casting as Mario Has Been Criticised by Harley Quinn’s Voice Actor

After the first trailer for the Super Mario Bros. movie came out, Tara Strong, who has played Harley Quinn, Timmy Turner (Fairly Odd Parents) and Twilight Sparkle (My Little Pony), among many other characters, tweeted several times in support of Martinet.

Strong tweeted, “It should be Charles.” He then posted a picture of the two actors holding a picture of a My Little Pony with a Mario theme.

In another tweet, Strong more directly ridiculed Nintendo and Illumination, saying “Voice actors- I’m gonna put my heart & soul in this for at least 20 years, help sell billions in merch, make the studios millions of dollars & make generations around the world happy. Hollywood- We don’t care.”

Chris Pratt was a controversial choice for the movie role because Martinet has been the Nintendo mascot for a long time. Fans have already used AI to add Martinet’s voice to the Mario movie trailer. This is not a surprise.

When the movie was first announced earlier this year, some people were upset that Pratt was going to play the plumber, but the film’s co-producer has come out in public to defend him.

Chris Meledandri, co-founder and CEO of Illumination, was asked how Chris Pratt was going to do Mario’s voice by a toofab reporter at LAX airport last year. “All I can tell you is the voice that he’s doing for us and Mario is phenomenal,” Meledandri replied. “I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

Meledandri was then asked why an Italian wasn’t cast for the role, even though Mario’s usual voice actor Charles Martinet isn’t Italian. He replied, “Well, as an Italian-American myself, I understand the comments. Charlie Day, who’s playing Luigi actually, comes from an Italian heritage. So that’s our nod.”

Strong later asked her fans to send love to actor Charles Martinet. She asked them to share any pictures or stories they had with him at conventions. This made a lot of people want to help, and Martinet liked a lot of them on Twitter.

The original announcement said that Martinet will have a small cameo role in the movie. Martinet has been the voice of Mario, Wario, Luigi, Waluigi, Baby Luigi and Baby Mario for over 20 years.

Even though he hasn’t said anything directly about the trailer, he has liked a few tweets that support him and say he should have been Mario in the movie. The Super Mario Bros Movie will come out on April 7, 2023 in North America.
