Even though they compete against one another as coaches on season 22 of The Voice, Gwen Stefani will always support her husband, Blake Shelton, regarding important decisions.
It all started when candidate Austin Montgomery gave a rendition of Hank Williams’s “I Can’t Help It (If I’m Still in Love With You)” for his blind audition. It was then that everything went down. After Gwen, Blake, and Camila Cabello rotated their chairs to learn more about the singer, an intense back-and-forth began as they tried to convince him to join their respective teams.
Camila Cabello and Gwen were ultimately unsuccessful. That is until Gwen decided to assist her husband rather than take on another rival so that she could increase her advantage.
“I think I could coach you well because you have so much character and style,” Gwen told Austin. “But musically, if you don’t pick me, don’t pick Camila, okay? … I’m being real here, guys!”
She continued: “This is your career! That man right there? This is what he loves. He loves what you do, and so do I. I would be happy to coach you, but I want to be real.”
This was not at all what everyone had anticipated would happen! Fans of The Voice were moved by the singer’s decision to back the country superstar when it felt like he should have been chosen for Austin, even though Gwen’s approach to picking team members was undoubtedly unconventional.
