Rep. Lee Zeldin Says Shooting Took Place Outside Home on Long Island: Republican candidate for governor and New York congressman Lee Zeldin claims his family is safe after two strangers were shot on Sunday in front of his Long Island house.
The two victims of the shooting, according to Zeldin, were discovered in the bushes and beneath his porch in Shirley, New York, but he is unsure of their names. According to the congressman’s office, although his teenage girls were inside the house at the time of the shooting even though he and his wife were not there, they heard gunshots and screams.
According to Zeldin, his daughters, both 16, locked themselves in a bathroom and dialed 911. He claimed the family was shaken but alright. The incident happened as Zeldin and his wife were leaving a parade in the Bronx.
He claimed that on Sunday night, authorities were conducting an investigation at his house and reviewing the security footage. He claimed that the two shooting victims were transferred to nearby hospitals.
The shooting, which didn’t seem to be related to Zeldin’s family, is being looked into, according to a brief statement from the Suffolk County Police Department. According to a representative for the police, no information was available regarding who shot the two people or who discovered them first.
In his campaign against Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul, Zeldin has made increasing crime rates and violent crime a priority. Among other things, he has campaigned for the state’s bail requirements to be stricter.
Crime has “actually made its way to our front door,” Zeldin remarked on Sunday, “like so many New Yorkers.” Later, he said on Twitter that one of the bullets was discovered 30 feet away from his daughters, who were sitting at the kitchen table when the shooting took place.
It’s his second near-death experience in recent months. He was attacked in July while running for office in upstate New York when a man walked up to him onstage and shoved something sharp close to his head and neck. He wasn’t hurt, and the man was taken into custody.
Two people were injured in a shooting outside of Rep. Lee Zeldin’s property in Shirley on Long Island Sunday afternoon, police said.
According to Suffolk County Police, the incident occurred at 2:20 p.m. on Saint George Drive West.https://t.co/QcyAWOVbiC

In a message shared on Twitter, Hochul claimed to have received a briefing on the shooting. The governor added, “While we wait for more information, I’m relieved to hear the Zeldin family is safe and grateful for law enforcement’s quick reaction.”
