Clayton Echard isn’t ready to date again after he broke up with Susie Evans on The Bachelor. There were some bumps in their relationship, both on and off-screen. When Susie found out that Clayton had slept with both Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia in the Fantasy Suites, she left the show.
The first time he tried to get her back, she said no. But in another twist they were back together on After the Final Rose. But things were not easy after the show. Clayton and Susie went through a debunked cheating scandal and the challenges of living far apart before they broke up in September.
Now, Clayton is talking about what he’s been doing since his breakup. Clayton told E! News, “I’m not looking to date right now.” He also said that he is not “mentally healed” from his breakup with Susie yet.
“I can’t even fathom seeing anybody in that light right now,” the 29-year-old continued, “So, I’m really just taking this time to focus on myself.” The Bachelorette alum emphasized, “if I’m not healed, then I can’t allow anybody else to be a part of my life.”
Clayton recently told people about his body dysmorphic disorder and he is now working with the Anxiety and Depression Association of America to help people with similar problems. The former NFL player also told E! that he is getting therapy, working out and writing in a journal to help him heal.
Clayton said that his mental health will determine whether or not he tries to find love on TV again. He was made fun of on “The Bachelorette.” He explained, “where I’m at today, I don’t know where I’ll be at a year from now. Maybe I’ll be in a better mental headspace, but I think part of me feels like it’s ingrained in my DNA.”
How Clayton and Susie are doing after they broke up?
Clayton also said that he and Susie are doing well even though they broke up and that they have “checked in a few times since we broke up just to say, ‘Hey, how are you?'”
Due to their shared experience, he explained, “At the end of the day, we know what we’ve went through is different than what anyone else has experienced.”
Both Clayton and Susie had to deal with people who were mean to them online. “So,” he added, “we’ll probably be one of the only few people to really understand each other in that sense.”
He said that they don’t know what will happen in the future. “We obviously will always respect and have a love for each other, and I think that’s a really great place to be where it’s not a hostile ex situation,” the Missouri native said.
“It’s more of like we’re very loving and caring, but we just want what’s best for each other and who knows what that looks like?”
Some Bachelor Nation fans weren’t surprised by the breakup, but others wouldn’t be surprised if Clayton and Susie got back together again. Even in the long history of the series, strange things have happened.
Some viewers also think that Clayton and Rachel will try dating again. Zach Shallcross, one of Rachel’s contestants, was chosen to take Clayton’s place as the next Bachelor. The criticism of Zach’s casting has been similar to that of his predecessor, but only time will tell if his season does better.
