When Jeff Bezos’s ex-wife Mackenzie Scott divorced the “Amazon” founder after he was caught cheating on her with her best friend, the world was surprised. Mackenzie Scott divorced Jeff Bezos in 2019 and she secured her name amongst the wealthiest women in the world through her divorce settlement. With a net worth of $27.9 billion, Mackenzie Scott was looking forward to having a happy new chapter in her life.
Being married again to Seattle school teacher Dan Jewett, she could embrace the little things that she missed. However, the 52-year-old billionaire filed for divorce at the end of September and everyone cannot stop wondering what went wrong in this relationship. What is the update regarding Mackenzie Scott’s divorce from Dan Jewett? Know about the details of Dan Jewett’s early exit from Mackenzie Scott’s life.
When Did Mackenzie Scott Meet Dan Jewett?
The philanthropist was married to Jeff Bezos for 25 years. After the shocking separation from the billionaire, she found love again in school teacher Dan Jewett. Her affair garnered media attention for years. Scott met Jewett who was a chemistry teacher for the high school students at Lakeside School. This is an extremely prestigious and elite private academic institution that is located in Seattle. Moreover, it is the same school where Scott’s children study. Even Bill Gates used to study in this reputed school and its education fees are around the US $40,000 a year.
Later in March 2021, they married and started having a family of their own. But Jewett had to live his job after his high-profile marriage was everywhere. He felt like it was hard for him to continue his job with so much attention. It was more of a distraction. Besides, since he used to teach Scott’s children, who were later his children, other students will be put in a difficult position. The couple continued to stay in Seattle despite having all the wealth to settle anywhere.
Now, Mackenzie Scott had gotten a huge amount of fortune from her divorce settlement. She had four beautiful children with Jeff Bezos. After the divorce, Scott aimed to distribute much of her wealth to needy people and Dan was eager to help her finalize the charities that could benefit from her donation.
When announcing their happy union through a statement, Scott and Jewett shared the update on the “Giving Pledge” which is a campaign to inspire people with wealth to donate a huge portion of what they have to charity.
Jewett updated back then, “And now, in a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know — and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others”.
Even he published a letter through the Giving Pledge that stated about Dan being “grateful for the exceptional privilege it will be to partner in giving away assets with the potential to do so much good when shared”.
In fact, a friend close to Scott described Jewett as an “earnest, not very edgy … the perfect person to end up with this money to give away – no sense of greed at all”.
So, yes, it seemed to be the perfect relationship that couples crave. However, there are differences now and divorce is on the way.

In spite of having all of the wealth involved in the process, the divorce is expected to be “pretty standard and vanilla” as stated by attorney David Glass. Since David is a family attorney, he was the one who took control over and monitored all the filings before submitting them to Washington State’s King County Superior Court. Furthermore, there was no prenuptial agreement.
In this context, Glass stated, “A separation contract under Washington law is when you say to your spouse, ‘We’re going to get divorced and we can work out all the details ourselves. Let’s write it up in an agreement and we’ll just notify the court that we’ve figured everything out,’ “And so that’s what they did here.”
