HBO Releases Crummy Commercial For Another Christmas Story Sequel: You’re triple dog dared not to savor the nostalgia in the first trailer for A Christmas Story sequel on HBO Max.
The 51-year-old Peter Billingsley will reprise his role as Ralphie Parker in the upcoming Thursday, Nov. 17, the release of A Christmas Story Christmas. The former child star can be seen donning Ralphie’s distinctive glasses in the video above.
But not before giving us a tour of the Parkers’ living room, which is precisely as it was in the original 1983 movie. Even the lampshade that came with the Old Man’s incredibly delicate leg lamp is visible.
The official logline for A Christmas Story Christmas states that an adult Ralphie “returns to the house on Cleveland Street to provide his kids a perfect Christmas like the one he enjoyed growing up.”
Ralphie reconciles the death of his Old Man, reunites with boyhood friends, and plants the seeds for the beginnings of the cherished holiday classic with the same attention to real-life tone as the first book. The sequel, which is set in the 1970s, also stars Ian Petrella (Randy), Zack Ward (Scut Farkus), Scott Schwartz (Flick), and R.D. in addition to Billingsley.
River Drosche (Miracle Workers) and Julianna Layne (Prodigal Son) play their son and daughter, respectively, and Julie Hagerty (Airplane!) reportedly plays Ralphie’s mother, a role that was previously held by Melinda Dillon. Erinn Hayes (Children’s Hospital, Kevin Can Wait) also appears in the cast as Ralphie’s wife.
When the movie was first shown in theatres, The Christmas Story only had a moderate box office impact. But over time, the movie—about a young boy who fervently desired an official Red Ryder carbine action, 200-shot range model air rifle for Christmas—became a cult favorite, in part because of TBS’ yearly, 24-hour marathon.
Which begins on Christmas Eve and runs through the next night, on December 25, and is a Christmas Eve start-to-finish event. The 1994 box office failure It Runs in the Family, which included none of the original cast and was renamed My Summer Story upon its 2006 DVD release, was the movie’s theatrical prequel. A Christmas Story 2, released in 2012, was a direct-to-video sequel that disregarded It Runs in the Family’s events.

The original movie also gave rise to a stage play in 2000 and a Broadway production in 2012. The latter, a musical, was subsequently transformed into A Christmas Story Live! for television. it was the first broadcast on Fox in 2017.
