FBI to Search Landfill for Remains of 20 Month Old Quinton Simon: In their hunt for the remains of a 20-month-old toddler who was reported missing earlier this month, police in Chatham County, Georgia, said they have concentrated on a landfill.
According to WTOC-TV, Quinton Simon was last seen on October 5 at his Buckhalter Road residence in Chatham County. At a news conference on Tuesday morning, Chatham County’s waste management landfill was the subject of an intensive search that had just started
According to police chief Jeff Hadley. “We are aware that our detectives and team will have a physically, cognitively, and emotionally taxing assignment on their hands.” Hadley talked as he leaned against a sizable picture of the youngster that, according to him, was hung on the wall of their operations center as a reminder of the subject of the months-long search.
As with everyone else, Hadley added, “We want justice for Quinton, and we want to discover his remains so we can give him a decent resting place.” However, he cautioned that the search would not be swift.
This won’t happen in the next day or so, he said. “Until we decide we don’t need to be here any longer, we’re in it for the long haul.” Hadley declined to give more information but stated that they think the boy’s body was dumped in a specific trash at a specific site and transported to the landfill using standard disposal procedures.
Authorities stated last week that they believed Simon to be dead and that the boy’s mother, Leilani Simon, is a suspect; however, no one has been charged. He said, “We’re not prepared to charge anyone yet.” There is still work to be done. We still need to conduct an investigation, therefore we won’t take any preventative action that could jeopardize further legal action.
On the morning of October 5, the toddler’s mother called 911 to report him missing, stating that she had last seen her son inside his playpen. A Sesame Street T-shirt and black pants were last spotted on the toddler, who was last known to be in them, and they were promptly spread out over the neighborhood just outside Savannah by police and volunteers.
The child’s home was searched by police in the days that followed with the help of FBI investigators. They employed search dogs to scour the woods close to the house and drained a pool in the rear.
Hadley choose not to say why the police thought the boy was deceased. What I can say is that the evidence we’ve gathered thus far, which was based on numerous search warrants and interviews, has convinced us that Quinton is dead, the police chief stated.

The boy’s mother is the only person police presently suspect, but he did not elaborate on why. Within a few hours of Quinton being reported missing, local police began their hunt for him, according to FBI agent Will Clarke, who runs the agency’s Savannah office. According to Clarke, the FBI deployed a team with expertise in child abductions to assist.
