Modern Warfare 2 Players Are Having Problems With the Early Access Launch

Early access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s single-player campaign hasn’t gone as planned. Players have reported a number of problems. People who pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 got to play the game’s campaign a week early, which started Thursday morning.

Even though early access to the campaign has been available for a while, it seems that some people who pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 haven’t been able to play it yet.

Call of Duty fans and Activision have both been focused on the September Multiplayer beta, but many people have been looking forward to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s single-player campaign.

It has a lot of the franchise’s most popular characters, like Captain John Price, Sergeant Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley, Sergeant John “Soap” MacTavish, CIA Station Chief Kate Laswell, and Urzikstani rebel leader Farah Karim. It also continues the story of the 2019 remake of Modern Warfare, which was liked by a lot of people.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players were pretty upset when the campaign’s early access launch was supposed to start but didn’t because of technical problems. Players have said that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has problems on all of its platforms, including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

All of the problems are different and don’t seem to have the same cause, but it looks like many players will lose at least the first day of early access to the single-player campaign.

PlayStation users can’t find the download for the early access campaign, Xbox Call of Duty players get an error message saying they’re trying to access the campaign too early, and PC users get messages from Steam saying the platform is down.

A big part of the problem is that people are trying to download the campaign on the day it came out instead of loading it ahead of time. But it’s also clear that either the platforms or Activision are having server problems, likely because of a big increase in traffic.

The good news is that none of the problems that people who pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 seem to be long-term problems.

Call of Duty players on PlayStation says they can download the campaign from their game library. Xbox users say restarting the game a few times helps fix the bugs and Steam has been stable all day.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a very popular game, so bugs are likely to happen. Even if only people who pre-ordered can get early access, the rush of people can be like a DDoS on servers. Servers sometimes go down or take a long time to update. Players of Call of Duty should be patient and understanding, and Activision should reward those who have had trouble getting what they paid for.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 comes out on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 28.
