Simone Johnson, Daughter of “The Rock,” debuts on WWE TV as “Ava Raine”

Ava Raine has come out to fight. Simone, also known as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter, is the newest star in wrestling. She made her first TV appearance for the WWE on NXT on Tuesday night.

Recent episodes hinted at who the 21-year-old was by showing her face hidden behind a mask all over the arena.

But on Tuesday, Simone took off her mask and pulled down her red hoodie to become the fourth member of wrestler Joe Gacy’s wrestling group Schism.

Simone is the first person from the same family to be a WWE wrestler for the fourth time. Her dad, grandfather Rocky and great-grandfather, Peter Maivia, were all WWE wrestlers. Lia Maivia, her great-grandmother, was also one of the first women to promote the sport.

The newest WWE star posted a selfie with the caption “Saved” on Instagram late Tuesday night. She also put the same picture on Twitter and wrote, “4 roots, 1 tree” to talk about her new wrestling family.

Simone confirmed in May that she would be wrestling for the WWE and changed the name of her official Twitter account to @AvaRaineWWE.

Simone talked about how people on Twitter were upset that her ring name didn’t have anything to do with her father, who joined the WWE in 1996 and worked there full-time for years. Her father made his debut in the WWE in 1996 and worked there full-time for years.

“I probably sound like a broken record & hopefully this is the last I’ll mention this but I don’t understand why people being portrayed as separate individuals from their family name is such a heated topic,” she wrote. “A name doesn’t discredit any prior accomplishments from any family.”

According to sources, fans saw the flame-haired wrestler for the first time when she filmed a commercial in Orlando in July.

In 2020, Simone became a trainee for WWE. The organization said that she had started training, but USA Today said that her first fight had to be put off because of a knee injury.

“To the little girl who fell in love with wrestling & said ‘this will be my life one day,’ this is for you. I’m humbled, grateful & ready to work. Let’s do this,” she wrote in the caption of her 2020 post announcing she’d signed with WWE.

At the time, her dad was so proud of his first-born daughter, whom he shares with his ex-wife Dany Garcia.

“Congrats to my #1 born, Simone Johnson, on officially signing her wrestling contract with WWE and NXT,” The Rock said so in an Instagram post. “And on her way to becoming the first-ever 4th generation WWE athlete.”
