Henry Cavill says he never gave up hope that one day he would play Superman. But when he finally put the cape back on, even he was surprised by how emotional the experience was.
Cavill was working on Netflix’s The Witcher six days a week when a deal was made for him to be in one scene in Black Adam, he told MTV’s Josh Horowitz at the 92nd Street Y on Wednesday night. He had to get permission from The Witcher’s team, but the actor said, “It was so top secret we couldn’t tell them what.”
When he got to the Warner Bros. studio in the UK for the secret shoot, he wore the costume he wore in 2013’s Man of Steel, which was his first time playing Superman.
During the conversation, which was a live recording for Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Cavill said, “I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit.” “It was incredibly important to me to be standing there and enjoying that moment. That is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again.”
“I never gave up hope … There is such a bright future ahead for the character”

The talk comes after a week in which Cavill was in the news. In the movie Black Adam, he played Superman again for the first time in five years. And on Monday, he said in a video posted to social media that he will play Superman in future DC movies. He said that what people saw in Black Adam was just “a small taste” of what’s to come.
Cavill was first chosen to play Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which was the first movie in the series. Since then, there have been big changes in the DC Universe. Warner Bros. has a new boss. James Gunn, who made Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, and Peter Safran, a producer, are now in charge of DC Studios, which is where Henry Cavill’s next Superman movies will be made.
Cavill said he was “very excited” about Gunn’s hiring, and he joked about rumours that he would join Marvel’s Loki by saying that if Gunn could switch between Marvel and DC, then maybe he could too. The Hollywood Reporter has heard from sources that Warner Bros. is looking for ideas for a sequel to Man of Steel.
Dwayne Johnson on Henry Cavill returning as Superman:
“We fought for years to bring you back. They always said no. But to Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia & myself, no was not an option. We can’t build out our DCEU without the world’s greatest superhero. Fans will always come first.” pic.twitter.com/RMCtzG2Pyu

Horowitz asked Cavill if he had any news about filmmakers or writers, but Cavill didn’t say anything: “Right now I can’t share anything … but in time, I’ll be able to share and everyone will hear all the exciting things to come.”
Snyder sent in a video question from the set of his Netflix movie Rebel Moon. He asked Cavill to think back on their early flying scenes and ended the video by saying, “I can’t wait to work with you again.”
Cavill responded by thanking the director: “He’s a lovely man, and I am enormously appreciative for everything he’s done for me. … Those are formative memories of mine, career-wise. It is when everything changed. I remember them fondly. … Zack if you are watching … thank you, my friend.”
Cavill did think about what would happen next. Said the actor: “There is such a bright future ahead for the character, and I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”
