Nancy Pelosi has said something about the violent attack on her husband Paul in their San Francisco home on Friday morning.
The Speaker of the House, who is 82 years old, posted a news release on her website on Saturday night. In it, she talked about what had happened the day before and gave an update on the health of her husband.
“Yesterday morning, a violent man broke into our family home, demanded to confront me and brutally attacked my husband Paul,” Nancy Pelosi shared on her website. “Our children, our grandchildren and I are heartbroken and traumatized by the life-threatening attack on our Pop.”
She added: “We are grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and emergency services, and for the life-saving medical care he is receiving.”

NBC Bay Area says that Paul had to have brain surgery as part of his medical care. A source told the news outlet that Paul, who is also 82, was also hurt in the face by the intruder with the hammer and was in stable condition. The news source said that there were Secret Service agents at the hospital.
The U.S. Capitol Police said that Nancy was in Washington, D.C. when the overnight attack happened. According to CNN sources, the intruder “confronted the speaker’s husband” and yelled, “Where is Nancy? Where is Nancy?” The criminal then tried to tie up Paul “until Nancy got home,” and when police arrived, he was still “waiting for Nancy,” sources said.
Continuing her weekend post, Nancy wrote, “Please know that the outpouring of prayers and warm wishes from so many in the Congress is a comfort to our family and is helping Paul make progress with his recovery. His condition continues to improve.”
Before then asking for prayers for the “continued safety and well-being of your family,” Nancy also shared some words from the Book of Isaiah: “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Just so we’re clear: The attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband is an act of political violence. I know we believe so deeply in our own exceptionalism but when similar things happen in other countries we clutch our pearls and pretend we could never.

The person who broke into Nancy’s house was caught while the U.S. Capitol Police, the FBI, and the San Francisco Police worked together to figure out why they did it. President Joe Biden also got involved by calling the House Speaker, who is second in line to become president, to show his support.
“The President is praying for Paul Pelosi and for Speaker Pelosi’s whole family,” wrote White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in a statement. “He is also very glad that a full recovery is expected. The President continues to condemn all violence, and asks that the family’s desire for privacy be respected.”
Nancy Pelosi has been harassed and threatened in the past, like on January 6, 2021 when rioters took over the U.S. Capitol. Some of the people who stormed the Capitol with violence were looking for the speaker and had taken over her office. One man even stole her lectern, which was a big deal and got him 75 days in jail. Another person in the crowd wrote on a police car, “PELOSI IS SATAN.”
Nancy could be seen talking about how angry she was with then-President Donald Trump in footage from the attack that was not shown on TV. The footage was taken by her daughter, documentary filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi. In the recently released video, when her chief of staff tells her that the Secret Service “dissuaded” Trump from coming to Capitol Hill, she says she would “punch him out.”
“If he comes, I’m going to punch him out,” Nancy said. “I’ve been waiting for this, for trespassing on Capitol grounds. I’m going to punch him out, and I’m going to go to jail, and I’m going to be happy.”
