South Korean Star Lee Ji-han Killed in a Mob Crush in Seoul

Lee Ji-han, a South Korean actor, was one of the 154 people who died Saturday in the crowd crush in Itaewon, Seoul. At least 132 other people have been hurt, with 37 in serious condition, and there are fears that the number of deaths could go up.

At the time of the fatal crush about 100,000 people were celebrating Halloween in the city’s nightlife district. On Sunday, October 30, Lee’s death in the disaster was confirmed by 935 Entertainment and 9ato Entertainment.

“It’s true that Lee Ji-han passed away due to the accident in Itaewon on October 29,” the agencies said in an official statement.

“We also hoped that it wasn’t true, and we were very shocked to hear the news. The family is suffering immense grief right now, so we are being very cautious. May he rest in peace.”
The 24-year-old actor was known for being a contestant on the reality talent show Produce 101.

He made his acting debut in the 2019 web series Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day. He was also set to star in the next season of the MBC drama Season of Kkokdu. On Instagram, 935 Entertainment also paid homage to the late actor.

“Please send a warm farewell to [Lee], who left us too soon,” they wrote. “We will remember Lee, who shone beautifully with his passion for acting.”

In response to the tragedy, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol called for a national mourning period that will last until Saturday, November 5.
