Three to four times a week, Allen and his wife would stop over. They would laugh with the other regulars and occasionally have a sad chat about what had happened to the youngsters and how terrible it must have been for their families. The bar was frequented by both of their families, according to Matlock.

The bar’s bulletin board displayed the two suspicious images that have been made public throughout the years. CVS Customers, Police Say Richard Allen ‘Blended Right In’
Betty Cummings, 67, would periodically meet up for lunch with friends at the McDonald’s next to the CVS to talk about possible solutions to the murders. She recalled seeing Allen occasionally drop by to pick up lunch; he was composed and unassuming, not interacting with anyone.

According to Libby’s grandma Becky Patty, Allen processed the girls’ photos at a nearby pharmacy without charging the family any fees. Allen’s seemingly unremarkable life in the neighborhood astounded the local law officers.

Officials at CVS expressed their “horror and sadness” regarding Allen’s arrest in the probe in a prepared statement from a spokeswoman.
The statement read, “As citizens of Carroll County, we are appalled by these killings, and our thoughts are with the German and Williams families. “We are prepared to offer any assistance we can to the police investigation.”

Before his term as sheriff comes to an end at the end of the year, Leazenby said arresting in the case of Abby and Libby felt almost like a goal for him. Leazenby only has a few things put up on a file cabinet in his office, including two Pittsburgh Steelers schedules and a side-by-side image of the Delphi suspect drawing, and a blurry cellphone shot.
Since the beginning of the investigation, he has kept the pictures up as a reminder of his objective. He always had trust that the day will come and credited his faith and the unwavering efforts of the investigators from various law enforcement agencies as the reasons for his optimism. The news, he said, still seems strange.
After five and a half years, “you start to wonder if you’re dreaming and if this is happening,” Leazenby said.
A.J. Robinson, 48, who had favorable initial impressions of Allen, finds it to be unreal. At JC’s, the pool bar, Robinson briefly encountered Allen for the first time. During their brief talk, Robinson informed Allen of his legal blindness.
Robinson claimed that following that, Allen would approach him at CVS and inquire if he needed assistance. He always acted civilly. Everyone would tell you that, said Robinson. “Never in a million years would you think,”

With mixed emotions, locals throughout the area are in awe of how their village has become a national and international story. Some feel compelled to defend the families of the victims, as evidenced by the local company that erected a notice forbidding media access.
A private security officer was hired by the CVS where Allen worked to watch the entrance on Monday; locals never see this.
They have primarily just sought answers.
“In this town, it hits home. It certainly resonates with me,” remarked Brower. “The residents of this community want explanations.”
