Jeff Probst has been the host of Survivor on CBS for the past 22 years, spanning 42 seasons. His name is now commonly used as shorthand for the entire series. That he should return to host Survivor season 43 is fitting.
Now that the battle has begun, there will undoubtedly be a slew of exciting new challenges, alliances, and manipulative strategies as the players race to be named the champion and take home the $1 million grand prize.
The 20 individual islands that make up Fiji’s Mamanuca group have been packed up and sent to host this season’s contestants. Since season 33, production has taken place here. Probst stated (opens in new tab) Entertainment Weekly, “I hope we remain here forever,” because it has everything they need, including magnificent ocean, beaches, jungle, and wildlife.

This season’s 43rd episode of Survivor will air on CBS at 8 pm ET/PT on Wednesday, November 2. CBS schedules Survivor and two other reality competition shows for Wednesday nights: the 34th season of The Amazing Race and the premiere of The Real Love Boat.

What is the Survivor Premise?
As is customary on Survivor, the contestants are divided into tribes, (likely) establish alliances, and compete in rigorous physical and mental immunity and reward challenges while living in a harsh environment with limited food supplies.
So what is it that you hope to achieve? To outmanoeuvre, outplay, and outlast the competition and take home $1,000,000 first place. This season, we examine the community the players establish. If you’ve seen any of the previous seasons, you know that adjusting to new circumstances is a major theme.
Because “you have to figure out what are the values, what are the norms, and what are the rules of this society, cause they establish the rules,” Probst says, “what we’re really going to look at this season is how that society that they form directly effects the game that they’re playing.”
Who is the Survivor Host?
Without Jeff Probst, will the show still be called “Survivor”? He’s been the show’s sole host for almost two decades, and he’s back for season 43. The 60-year-old has been recognised as an Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program four times, out of a total of ten nominations (opens in new tab).
You read that right: Probst left the popular TV show in 2009 because he was exhausted. But after recharging and reorganising the production team, he’s back.
According to an interview he gave to The New York Times, his greatest weakness was that “nobody perceived me as a storyteller, that they saw me as a white guy with dark hair who was merely a game show host” (opens in new tab). “That was the thing that might really hurt me in terms of how I see myself. It felt like someone was punching me in the kidney.”
