Police Said Multiple People Were Found Deceased Inside A Home In La Plata, Maryland

MARYLAND, LA PLATA After discovering five bodies inside a home in La Plata, Maryland on Friday, officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and the La Plata Police Department have begun an investigation.

Diane Richardson, a spokesperson for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, told WUSA9 that they had gotten a 911 call reporting gunfire near the 3000 block of Wildflower Drive. According to Richardson, “investigators walked inside and found all five victims were dead.”

In her words, “investigators are working through the scene trying to positively identify the victims,” who all seem to be adults. According to Richardson’s interview with WUSA9, the witness who called 911 made the call. The most I can tell you is that someone contacted 911 and said shots were fired,” she said.

Some neighbours have reported problems at the residence to WUSA9. Richardson stated, “I can’t confirm anything at this time, but we do have detectives looking into that.” She said that police have spoken with the home’s owner, but she wouldn’t reveal if the owner lives there or whether they’re renting it out.

She also refused to say whether the homeowner was present during the incident or not. It was “definitely much out of the norm,” according to La Plata Police Chief Carl Schinner, who also described it as “heartbreaking.”

“It’s tragic for our community, and we weep with the community as they mourn the loss of their neighbours and friends,” Chief Schinner said. Police have not disclosed any information about the deaths or a probable motive. Police would only state the incident had been contained and that no one else was in danger when questioned about any potential suspects.
