On Sunday, just a few days before the midterm elections, Chris Pratt endorsed a political candidate, throwing his weight behind billionaire Rick Caruso in the run for mayor of Los Angeles.
Pratt, now 43 years old, virtually campaigned for Caruso, a former president of the Los Angeles Police Commission, on Instagram Stories. Caruso previously worked for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power as a commissioner in 1985 under then-Mayor Tom Bradley.
My home for the past twenty years has been Los Angeles. To me, it’s been fantastic. During that period, I’ve witnessed the city’s “gradual fall into anguish and total chaos,” as Pratt put it in his online journal. “If you’re from around here, you’ll understand what I’m talking about.
When it comes to politics, I usually stay neutral. However, there is simply too much at stake in this race to take any chances. Also, he said, “Please vote for @rickcarusola if you live in Los Angeles. He works in construction. He is an expert at getting things done. In this town, he’s the man. Please vote for Rick Caruso to be Los Angeles’ next mayor.

Maria Shriver, Pratt’s mother-in-law, has been a vocal supporter of Caruso on Twitter for quite some time, and she has made it clear that she shares Pratt’s vote. “The margin of victory is razor thin, therefore every vote counts. The option is obvious with @RickCarusoLA if you desire a different Los Angeles from the one we have now.
The city’s future depends on its ability to adapt. Let’s go, she tweeted. “This is on us. Caruso, a former Republican, is running against incumbent Democrat Karen Bass in Tuesday’s midterm elections. In November 2020, Bass will be serving her sixth term as the representative for California’s 37th congressional district.
Bass served as the assemblyman for California’s 47th district for six years before he was elected to Congress. Both Bass and Caruso are vying to succeed outgoing Mayor Eric Garcetti, but the city is sharply divided between the former social worker and longtime community advocate and the real estate developer behind popular sites like The Grove and The Commons in Calabasas.
Kim K. endorsed Caruso in May, while Katy Perry did the same in June via Twitter. Even celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Elon Musk, and Gwyneth Paltrow back Caruso. Official documents show that Caruso was a Republican for over two decades before declaring his independence in 2011.

In 2016, Caruso became the California campaign co-chair for Republican John Kasich’s presidential campaign, after having previously switched back to independent status. Before running for mayor in February, he switched parties, becoming a Democrat. Obama has joined the ranks of celebrities like Steven Speilberg, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Danny Trejo, and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in supporting Bass.
Los Angeles Mayor Polls 2022
- We anticipate a late-breaking swing in Karen Bass’s favour. Given the absence of polling data, we conduct a thorough Google Search. Until two days before the election, Caruso had a 40% advantage over Bass in Google Search. Bass narrowed the lead to 13% on the final day, indicating a dramatic shift in support.
- Where do we stand now, exactly? Bass’s social media engagement was down by 14% in the previous week (California State). This has dropped by 6 percentage points in the last day. Meanwhile, Rick Caruso went from (-14%) in the six days prior to yesterday to (-21%) today.
- The Democrats are coming together around Bass after the release of a survey yesterday showing he had a 6-point advantage.
This race is super tight and every vote matters. If you want Los Angeles to be different than it is today, the choice is clear with @RickCarusoLA. Change is critical to the city’s future. It’s up to us – let’s go! https://t.co/bJ9GSHxhVi

Is Rick Caruso A Republican?
Vote totals for Democrats have averaged over 60% and even reached 70% since 2000. Given the current climate, in which the Democratic party is widely reviled, it is impossible to tell whether the voters who are seeking this information on Google are Republicans or Democrats.
According to official records, Caruso changed his party affiliation from Republican to Independent a few years ago and is now a registered Democrat. By contrast, Karen Bass received 85 percent of the vote in her most recent Congressional election. Parts of Los Angeles fall within her district.
She may be neck-and-neck with Caruso in the polls, but she has the support of the Democratic party’s massive voter registration base to carry her to victory in November. Nonetheless, Rick Caruso is aiming to receive more than 50% of the primary vote and call off the election immediately.

LA Mayor Polls 2022: How Is The Election Conducted?
The mayoral primary election in Los Angeles is non-partisan, meaning that candidates from all political parties compete in the same election. For both partisan and nonpartisan elections, there are two phases: the primary and the general.
In contrast to the partisan election, the non-partisan election does not include any party representation. In accordance with California law, the top two vote-getters in a primary election proceed to the general election in Los Angeles. If no candidate obtains more than 50% of the vote in the primary election, only the top two vote-getters will advance to the general election.
