According to lottery authorities, a lottery player who purchased the ticket in California has won the $2.04 billion Powerball Jackpot.
According to the California Lottery, the winning ticket was purchased at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena. The $997.6 million cash option will also be available to the winner.

Why was the Powerball delayed?
We are unable to bring you the Powerball drawing right now due to a technical issue tonight. “It will be available on Powerball.com as soon as we are unable to conduct the drawing and address the problem,” lottery host Laura Johnson informed the nervously watching television watchers at 11 p.m. EST.
The delay, according to a statement released shortly after, was brought on by “a participating lottery needing more time to execute the requisite security processes.” The Multi-State Lottery Association released a statement at around 2:20 a.m. that elaborated on the issue:
“A participating lottery is still processing its play and sales data at this time. Before the winning numbers are chosen, Powerball requires all 48 participating lotteries to submit their sales and play data. After Powerball gets the unfinished entry, the drawing can start. Powerball is dedicated to holding drawings that provide every participant an equal chance to win and has strict security measures to maintain the game’s integrity.

The Multi-State Lottery Association released an additional statement at about 7:15 a.m. “Powerball has been in touch with the lottery all night as it attempts to fix the problem. Regrettably, there was a delay because the other 47 lotteries were able to finish the necessary security checks on time.
Powerball, like the rest of America, is eager to hold its drawing for the record-breaking jackpot, but maintaining the draw’s integrity is of utmost significance, even if that results in a longer delay.
According to a press statement from the Multi-State Lottery Association, the record-breaking $2.04 billion jackpot was won in the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee at 8:57 a.m.
When announcing the winner on Tuesday afternoon, Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director and Chair of the Powerball Product Group Drew Svitko stressed the significance of maintaining the draw’s integrity.

Except for California, prizes range from $4 for matching the Powerball to $1 million for matching all five white balls to the jackpot for matching all six balls.
