Founder of S&M Custom Design LLC Santia McKoy spoke on the late actor’s profound influence on her life since the debut of the first “Black Panther” film. Santa McKoy, owner of S&M Unique Design LLC in Ocoee, has created another innovative, one-of-a-kind custom design.
The outfit is from the designer’s La Vie En Noir line and is a memorial to the late actor Chadwick Boseman. McKoy said it meant the world to her and the African American community to witness Boseman in the role of Black Panther in the movie. She claimed that the actor had made quite an impression on her ever since she first saw the film.
Many of her admirers urged her to see the film because ‘Designer Santia you have to go see the movie because the designs they are wearing are something that you can make,'” she explained. “I went in watching the movie while at the same time my vision is putting me in action where I can see myself making all these clothes.”
According to the designer, the garment was handcrafted in roughly a week. The velvet and sequins on the dress are a one-of-a-kind design. Similar to the one Black Panther wore in the film, this necklace is made out of claws.

In her words, “it’s really amazing in many ways to have a black man playing such an important position, portraying a monarch that reflected so much culture.” “When I heard of his passing, I felt like a large piece of our community had been ripped away. I was profoundly moved by his influence.”
Unfortunately, Boseman lost his fight against colon cancer on August 28th, 2020. According to McKoy, “my fantasy was to meet him and design some outfits for him.” This desire persisted long after the actor’s death. “That news just sucked the wind out of me. I promised myself, “I will make a masterpiece in his honor.”
On Friday, November 11, theaters everywhere will show the highly anticipated sequel to Marvel’s Black Panther. McKoy has stated that in September of 2023, she will be making a trip to New York to attend New York Fashion Week.
