Former Wisconsin governor Scott Walker is proposing new voting regulations less than a week after the midterm elections. Walker said on Twitter on Sunday “Elections should be on one day. A photo ID should be required. Ballots should be cast in person with exceptions only for military and homebound. Results should be known on the night of the election.”

When challenged by WISN 12 News‘ Walker, “You are suggesting eliminating almost all early absentee voting, is that correct?” “Yeah, I think to make it a day off,” replied Walker. “Make it a national holiday so people can come and vote. There’s no reason why they can’t get off work. Make it a holiday.”
Thousands of people responded to Walker’s post, with many agreeing that elections should only be held on Election Day. While others were completely against it, with some even suggesting it was an attempt to suppress the vote. Multiple absentee voter Walker was asked by WISN-12 News if he is proposing a solution to a nonexistent problem.
“I’m pointing out, again, the anticipating problems that we’ve seen in other states. Let’s not have that.”Walker pointed out. “The first thing I think of is what a dumb idea that is,” Wisconsin Election Commission member Ann Jacobs said of Walker’s plan. “The idea that you’re going to be able to have everybody vote on one day is sort of preposterous.”
The 2014 midterm election in Wisconsin saw more than 740,000 absentee ballots cast, either by mail or at an early voting center. Walker said, “It may take a few more years until a few more seats are won in the Assembly and the Senate. Right now, they’re close, but they don’t quite have a veto-proof majority.”
