Sonic the Hedgehog Co-creator Yuji Naka Arrested

Yuji Naka is a co-creator of Sonic the Hedgehog and the game’s director. On Friday, he was arrested by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office on suspicion of insider trading.

Specifically, a number of former Square Enix employees have been arrested for insider trading related to the mobile game Dragon Quest Tact and the company that made it, Aiming.

Yuji Naka is said to have bought 10,000 shares of Aiming before it was known that the studio would make Dragon Quest Tact. Most likely in the hope that the price of the shares would go up when the news got out.

While Naka only bought 10,000 shares, other Square Enix employees, like Taisuke Sazaki and Fumiaki Suzuki, bought a lot more and are also suspected of insider trading.

Do check:

After leaving Square Enix and being kicked out of making Balan Wonderworld, Naka is already in a lawsuit, so his arrest comes at a bad time.

Many people know Naka best for his work on and part in making the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He was also a key member of the first Sonic Team.

Naka is a good programmer, but he also worked on designing and making the early Sonic games, as well as Nights into Dreams, which has a lot of different elements, and Burning Rangers, which isn’t as well known as it should be.

Anyway, we still don’t know how this will all turn out or how much Naka really broke the law. At least for now, it looks like Naka and others are going to have a rough time in court.
