Season 15 of Apex Legends launches tomorrow, bringing with it the playable character Catalyst, the battle royale map Broken Moon, and a whole lot more (as detailed in the Apex Legends Season 15 patch notes). All the information you need to know about Season 15 is here, and it’s available in depth before it ever begins.
Perhaps the most shocking aspect of Season 15 is what we don’t get to witness. In contrast to previous seasons, Respawn isn’t making any changes to the current roster of playable legends for Season 15. That implies we won’t be making any significant changes to the characters’ stats.
As a positive side effect, the seasonal patch is resolving several problems, including the one that annoyingly damaged Vantage’s passive ability. Only one or two members of the team remain, so she won’t bother assuring them that the full squad is still alive. Hallelujah!
In keeping with tradition, Respawn will launch Season 4 on the same day Season 3 concludes. When Season 14 ends on November 1, Season 15 will also premiere on the same date.
New legend: Catalyst
At the start of Season 15, Tressa “Catalyst” Smith joined the ranks of the Apex Legends roster. Catalyst is a support player that defends by denying adversaries access to an area, allowing her allies time to recover, assess the situation, and counterattack. Though she may not drastically alter the meta of Apex Legends, Catalyst still sounds like a lot of fun to play as. Her skills are described in detail below.
- Passive Ability: Barricade – Reinforce doors, strengthening them and locking them to enemies. Spaces where doors have been destroyed can also be reinforced.
- Tactical Ability: Piercing Spikes – Throw out a patch of ferrofluid which turns into spikes when enemies are near. The catalyst remains immune to enemy spikes.
- Ultimate Ability: Dark Veil – Raise a permeable wall of ferrofluid. Enemies who walk through will be slowed and partially blinded for a brief time.
Catalyst is the game’s first anti-scan legend, and his ultimate ability is quite similar to Rhapsody’s in the mobile version of Apex Legends. Dark Veil may not be able to stop every kind of scan, but it can keep characters like Bloodhound and Seer from spying on Catalyst and her teammates.
Certain personalities, such as Crypto, are harder to defeat. Chris Winder, Apex Legends’ lead game engineer, told GameSpot that the team had to experiment a lot with Dark Veil since “not all of the scan abilities function in this singular directional fashion from you to the target,” but can be triggered by other actions.
“If you’re trying to scan some characters in Crypto, for instance, you can do it by piloting the Crypto drone over the top of the wall and then transmitting the data to the rest of the squad. We focused on the scan’s origin rather than its visibility as a means of establishing trust.
You will be able to check if they are scanned, but you will have to figure out a way to get past the barricade to do so. But if you try to peer through the wall, you won’t see anything.”
Broken Moon: A Brand New Map
Apex Legends’ fifth battle royale map, Broken Moon, was added alongside Catalyst in Season 15 of the game. According to an interview with GameSpot, developer Respawn explained that Broken Moon depicts both the moon’s dark and light sides as a contrast between heaven and hell.
References to African culture can be found throughout the world in Broken Moon, expanding on the Afrofuturism established on Boreas, Catalyst, and Seer’s home planet. ZIP RAILS are a new form of fast movement introduced to Apex Legends in the Broken Moon DLC.
These rails wind and bend throughout the map, making it easier for players to get from one part of the game to another. They move players much faster than zip lines do, yet in a similar fashion.
Lead level designer Jeff Shaw said to GameSpot, “I would estimate that the majority of [zip rails] are on the outer perimeter of the area.” “There are a few that lead deeper into the map, but one of the primary motivations for these was to make the outer reaches of the map more accessible and usable.
This is because we discovered that after landing or selecting an edge POI, players tend to head straight for the centre of the ring, due to the ring behavior and all that. As a result, using these, you can more effectively use the border of the playing area.”New battle pass
With the release of Season 15 of Apex Legends comes to a brand new battle pass. The two legendary skins for the characters this time around are Revenant and Ash, and the Charge Rifle has two legendary reactive weapon skins. In addition to the skins, the battle pass includes new banner frames, emotes, and kill quips, all of which have a lunar theme.
New Cosmetics: Gifts And Stickers
With the release of Season 15, Apex Legends now has a Gift system where players may buy cosmetics with Apex Coins and then give them to their friends. You can now give away either a single item (such a legend skin or weapon skin) or a whole bundle to a friend.
As part of Season 15, Apex Legends introduces a brand-new kind of cosmetics known as Stickers, in addition to the Gift system. Stickers can be added on Shield Cells, Shield Batteries, Syringes, Med Kits, and Phoenix Kits, allowing you to further personalize your experience.
