Now that Power Book II: Ghost is well into its third season, everything has changed. Courtney Kemp, formerly in charge of running the program, has been promoted to executive producer, and Empire’s Brett Mahoney has been named the new showrunner.
But that’s just the beginning of the series’ changes; Tariq’s on-screen journey will only get more intricate from here on out. So, what can we expect? Learn about what’s to come and when we can expect the show’s return to our screens in this comprehensive guide.
As Starz’s CEO, Jeffrey Hirsch, put it, “the sustained success and cultural resonance of the Power universe is unprecedented,” and fans are “obviously still hungry” for more of Power Book II: Ghost.
With the release of Power Book IV: Force, the fourth installment in the rapidly growing franchise, “we are eager for the third season of the star-studded series to begin into production early next year.” Everything you need to know about the third season of Power Book II: Ghost is right here.

Power Book II Ghost season 3: When Will It Air?
It seems like forever, but as of November, there is still no official word on when Ghost Season 3 will be available to stream or download. Not that we have nothing to provide to the table. While we don’t have a confirmed premiere date for Season 3, we can say that production is currently complete.
A release date is in the wind, so to speak. They announced it on their podcast, The Crew Has It, which they co-host with Gianni Paolo and Michael Rainey Jr. as Ghost. Paolo said, “We wrapped; we’re done filming.”
“Rainey piped in, “Yeah, we just finished filming season three that y’all have been clamoring for, so we can now offer you… not a date because we don’t know yet, but that’s all we can tell you now that we’re done. Every other detail is being worked out.”
Both refused to reveal any plot details, but Rainey did say, “They’re coming in hot” in reference to the third season. That’s what we were hoping to hear, so thank you! I mean, it’s not like we anticipated anything different.
In early August, we learned that filming was finally done, bringing us tantalizingly close to hearing either the release date or announcement of its start. Season two premiered in the autumn of 2020, so if season three has a similar release date, we may see it in a matter of months.
We regret that we cannot be more specific at this time, but please remain tuned. Please check back soon; we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we get any news (crossing our fingers).
Power Book II: Ghost season 3 cast
In addition to the regulars, we can count on the return of Michael Rainey Jr. as Tariq St. Patrick, the son of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tasha Green-St. Patrick.
• Mary J Blige as Monet
• Berto Colon as Lorenzo Tejada
• Lovell Adams-Gray as Dru Tajada
• Woody McClain as Cane Tejada
• LaToya Tonodeo as Diana Tejada
• Gianni Paolo as Brayden Weston
• Cliff ‘Method Man’ Smith as David Maclean
• Shane Johnson as Cooper Saxe
• Redman as Theo Rollins
Professor Carrie Milgram (Melanie Liburd) and her high school sweetheart Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ Cross (Daniel Bellamy) both died in season 2, as did Mecca/Danté Spears (Daniel Sunjata). However, that doesn’t rule out the possibility of a comeback in the form of flashbacks or other events.
Keesha Sharp, who starred in Lethal Weapon, will make a significant return in Season 3. Professor Harper Bonet, “a progressive academic and bohemian beauty,” will be portrayed by Sharp (via Deadline). As filming progresses, hopefully, we’ll hear more cast news.
Deadline announced in March that Gbenga Akinnagbe, Kyle Vincent Terry, and Caroline Chikezie had joined the cast. Gbenga, who has been on The Deuce before, will play RSJ, aka Ron Samuel Jenkins. The business tycoon has worked his way up through college and Harvard Business School, so he is familiar with the upper crust.
Obi, played by Gotham’s Kyle, is a British-educated man who is as adept with a rifle as he is with a commercial deal. Noma, played by Caroline (of Mayhem fame), is “a worldly and strong woman with a regal presence who has acquired her money with an illicit worldwide empire and is not afraid to safeguard it,” as described by Deadline.
Power Book II Ghost Season 3: What Will Happen?
As the second season comes to a close, Monet will learn that her husband Lorenzo Tejada (Berto Colon) accidentally shot and murdered their son Zeke. After killing Professor Jabari Reynolds (Justin McManus) and getting away with it, Tariq, who had previously wished to leave the drug trade, has opted to stay and replace Mecca as the industry’s link.
However, Brayden, who saved Tariq from a lifetime in prison by admitting to being the student selling drugs on campus and exposing himself as the CEO of their drug peddling app Course Correct, betrayed him by setting up Tariq’s college girlfriend Lauren, whose body was discovered after a car accident.
In an interview with PopSugar, Rainey hinted that Tariq would be making money and fighting a lot because he was attempting to piece together what had occurred with Lauren and how things had gone. She stated, “It will be difficult for [Brayden] to keep one secret from Tariq. Tariq is smart; he’ll come up with a solution. Everything that interests him will be investigated thoroughly.

I’m looking forward to seeing the ups and downs that are sure to come into play in the relationships in question. You can count on insanity. NYPD detective Blanca Rodriguez (Monique Gabriela Curnen), who was previously introduced as the officer who was assigned to confidential informant Mecca, returned in the series finale.
If Blanca returns to her investigation of Mecca’s shooting while holding a blurry photo of Tariq, he’s in for a world of trouble. The third season is going to pick up speed as well, with Cooper Saxe teaming up with Prosecutor Jenny Sullivan (Paton Ashbrook) to blow the whistle on Davis MacLean’s shady legal practices.
At the same time, MacLean is fighting to free his innocent brother, Theo Rollins, who is doing time in jail for a murder he did not commit. Thanks to Rainey’s comments on The Crew Has It, we can rest assured that it will not disappoint and can, at the very least, look forward to the same amount of excitement as in prior seasons.
