After twelve years and eleven seasons, The Walking Dead may be over, but these actors still have a bright future ahead of them, and we can’t wait to see what they do next. What these walking dead stars’ futures look like following the show’s finale.
The Walking Dead, one of the longest-running and most popular shows on network television, is ending after twelve years and eleven seasons. The stories of many of the show’s characters have ended, but there is still a sizable cast of mainstays who have kept the show going and achieved great success in spinoffs and other franchises.
While the television series The Walking Dead may be over, skilled performers are more in demand than ever. After the series’ conclusion, this is how some of The Walking Dead’s stars see their future.
Norman Reedus
Norman Reedus is one of the few actors to have secured a future in The Walking Dead after the conclusion of the main series. He will still be busy slaying zombies and revving his motorcycle, but not in Senoia, Georgia, where the main series was primarily filmed.
Although there isn’t an official release date yet, a Daryl Dixon show—originally a Daryl and Carol show—will air sometime in 2023 and star Reedus as the roughed-up hero in France.
Keanu Reeves will feature in Season 6 of his popular AMC bicycling series Ride With Norman Reedus, which is not part of the franchise. Additionally, there are reports that Austin Butler, Austin Comer, and Jodie Comer will appear in Reedus’ first major picture in years, The Bikeriders.
Danai Gurira
Even though Gurira left The Walking Dead several seasons ago, her role as the katana-wielding Michonne will live on in viewers’ hearts. She also has plans to return to the universe with a Rick and Michonne spinoff, which is expected to debut in 2023 and consist of six episodes.
This is similar to Reedus’ plans. Before that, viewers can catch her in the Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever, where she reprises her role as general Okoye on the big screen.
She is also working on a Black Panther Disney+ miniseries along with other Marvel projects. She regularly performs in theatre as an actress and playwright in addition to her appearances on both the big and small screens.
Andrew Lincoln
The Walking Dead’s Rick Grime’s central focus ended a few seasons ago with the character’s ambiguous ending. Still, Lincoln will return as a critical character alongside Gurira in the Rick and Michonne show.
Fans are eager to see him return in full force as Rick Grimes and with new roles after taking a leave of absence to spend time with his family. He has kept his foot in the door of the entertainment industry with a few other projects, such as making an appearance in an episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities horror anthology series.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, one of the few actors who achieved significant success and starred in numerous critically acclaimed and commercially successful shows and films before appearing in The Walking Dead, continues to produce a consistent volume of content aside from his role as the baseball bat-wielding Negan.
Additionally, he has a role in The Walking Dead: Dead City, a spinoff series starring Lauren Cohan as Maggie Rhee from the main series.
The show’s first season, which will take place in Manhattan and feature the sworn enemies working together, will debut sometime in 2023. Morgan will also play a recurring character in the fourth season of the Amazon Prime series The Boys, which is expected to premiere in 2023.
Lauren Cohan
Melissa McBride
Originally, McBride and Norman Reedus were slated to co-star in the spinoff show, allowing viewers to follow Carol and Daryl as they went about their daily lives. However, because of filming and other issues behind closed doors, Dixon will receive most of the attention in the spinoff.
As their story isn’t over, there have been rumors of McBride’s character returning to the show. McBride is Walking Dead royalty because he is one of only two actors to have persisted through the entire primary series.
Seth Gilliam
Michael James Shaw
Josh McDermitt
Samantha Morton’s portrayal as the Whisperer leader Alpha is one of the best and most disturbing on the program, even though her character was tragically killed off a few seasons ago. She recently starred in the movie She Said and will soon appear with Brendan Fraser in The Whale.
Morton has recently found employment on television as well; in addition to appearing in an episode of the Tales of The Walking Dead anthology series (which further explores Alpha’s beginnings), her Starz series The Serpent Queen wrapped up its first season and has been renewed for a second.
Additionally, Morton is now filming The Burning Girls, a new television series in which she will portray a reverend attempting to start over with her daughter after things go wrong.
Last Words
The Walking Dead is ending after 12 years and 11 seasons. Many of the show’s characters have completed, but a large ensemble of stalwarts has kept it going and found success in spinoffs and other series.
