After realizing he has a higher-than-average risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, actor Chris Hemsworth said he is taking a vacation from performing. After taking testing for his Disney+ documentary series Limitless, the Thor actor discovered the revelation.
The tests confirmed his “biggest fear,” he told Vanity Fair, adding that he will now try to take “preventative steps.” The most prevalent type of dementia, Alzheimer’s, can impair memory, cognition, and communication.
Hemsworth discovered that he carries two copies of the gene ApoE4, one from each parent, increasing his risk of contracting the illness by eight to ten times compared to people who don’t carry both copies of the gene.
Between 2% and 3% of people have two copies of the gene. Although Hemsworth clarified, “It’s not like I’ve been handed my resignation,” the news “triggered me to want to take some time off.”
He said the benefit of taking preventative measures, “if you look at Alzheimer’s prevention, is that it affects the rest of your life.”
“It’s all about managing your sleep, stress, diet, activity, and fitness. The tools involved are essentially the same and must be used consistently.”
Hemsworth tests his body and looks into ways to live longer and healthier in the Limitless series. He clarified that although he had not received a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, he had been made aware of the increased risk. Although it’s not a pre-deterministic gene, he claimed it is a strong indication. “I think it was more of a determinant ten years ago,” the speaker said.
The creator of the series, Darren Aronofsky, told Hemsworth privately after they received the results, contrary to the original plan for the series, which called for him to receive all of his genetic test results live on camera.
After being given a chance to opt out of any mentions of Alzheimer’s in the show, the Marvel actor left them in to raise awareness and understanding.
He explained his hesitation, saying, “I just didn’t want to manipulate it, over-dramatize it, and make it into some sort of hokey grab at empathy or whatever for entertainment.”
Hemsworth informed the publication that his grandfather had been given an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The actor recently wrapped up filming on George Miller’s upcoming Mad Max sequel Furiosa, which will be released shortly.
The 39-year-old stated that after finishing the Limitless publicity tour and his other contracted work, he would take a break from acting. He will return to Byron Bay, Australia, to spend time with his three children and partner, actor Elsa Pataky.
Chris Hemsworth announces acting break due to Alzheimer’s
Chris Hemsworth is prioritizing his health and that of his family after receiving some dire medical news.
The Thor: Love and Thunder actor revealed in a recent interview with Vanity Fair that he would be taking a break from acting after learning that he carries two copies of the APOE4 gene, which significantly raises his risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. While getting a bloodwork panel for his new Disney+ show Limitless, a docuseries about time, aging, and dying, the 39-year-old actor learned about this genetic predisposition.
He initially intended to have a doctor explain everything to him on camera, but when the results came in, he said everything had changed. “Peter Attia, who is the longevity doctor in that episode and oversees a lot of the show, called [show creator] Darren [Aronofsky] and said, ‘I don’t want to tell him this on camera,'” he said to the magazine. We need to have an off-site discussion if he even wants this to be in the show.

Hemsworth ultimately decided to answer the phone when his parents were present off-camera. They all had numerous inquiries, particularly since Hemsworth’s grandfather is presently battling Alzheimer’s disease and has memory problems.
He said that navigating these discussions was “intense” because most people prefer to avoid discussing death in the hopes that we can somehow prevent it. We all think we’ll figure it out, though. The reality then sets in when you learn that several significant indicators point in this direction as the course that will ultimately take place. Your mortality
The program, he continued, “became even more relevant and significant for me, even more, poignant than I ever anticipated it would be. It was initially an investigation of longevity and, of course, should be enjoyable. It was an excellent trigger for me to get started on what I needed to do, whether on the management or the preventive front or however you want to categorize it.
With this knowledge in hand, Hemsworth decided to take a break from acting to recuperate and spend more time with his family. The actor, born in Australia, and his wife, Spanish actress, and model Elsa Pataky, have three young children together. He has been constantly employed since the early 2000s, but his career took off in 2011 when he debuted as Thor in the corresponding Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

He continued, really sparked something in me to want to take some time off. And ever since the show ended, I’ve been fulfilling the tasks for which I already had a contract. After this week’s tour, I’ll return home, take some time off, and try to keep things simple. Be with my wife and the kids.
Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative neurologic condition that impairs a person’s ability to function normally by causing memory loss and other significant cognitive abnormalities. An estimated 5.8 million Americans over 65 are impacted by it. Although there is no known treatment for Alzheimer’s, several drugs may help with symptoms.
