Ferran Torres Responds To Luis Enrique Joke About Relationship With Daughter: Since Ferran Torres is dating Enrique’s daughter, the coach has joked that he must select the Barcelona player to represent Spain at the World Cup. Spain’s campaign in Qatar gets underway on Wednesday when they take against Costa Rica under Enrique’s leadership.
Group E also includes Germany and Japan, but the 2010 champions have a star-studded roster that should be able to advance without Enrique’s help. Torres, a former player for Manchester City, has been seeing Enrique’s daughter, Sira Martinez, 22. Torres moved in January from City to Barcelona for £46.3 million, complicating his relationship with the national team’s manager, Martinez, a showjumper.
When asked in a news conference to name a teammate who embodies him on the field, Enrique was pointedly reminded that Vicente del Bosque had named Sergio Busquets. In a cheerful tone, he responded: “Identifying Mr. Ferran Torres is a breeze. If I don’t, my daughter will kill me with a chopping knife.”
After Enrique’s joking press conference, Spain sent up Torres to react. “We all know the coach is a jokester, so I don’t think of it as extra pressure,” he explained. “The head coach and I have figured out how to tell family business from business as manager and player. I think it’s best if we simply go on with it naturally; that seems to be working out just well.”
After Martinez’s victory in a horseback riding competition in January, Torres announced their romance on Instagram. They are both Enrique and Torres’ eldest children, and she resides in Barcelona.

Even though Torres was making light of the incident in public, he reacted differently when the subject was brought up in a private conversation. At the weekend, the Barça forward was on a Twitch stream with the ex-City striker Sergio Aguero, but he abruptly ended the session after Aguero inquired about his personal life. Aguero joked in response, “Ferran left. I told him, “Stop s****ing Luis’ girl.”
Torres will be vying for a starting spot in Enrique’s lineup with players like Pablo Sarabia, Yeremy Pino, Alvaro Morata, Marco Asensio, Nico Williams, Ansu Fati, and Dani Olmo.

Spain’s opening match is against Costa Rica at 4 pm UK time on Wednesday in the Al Thumama Stadium, followed by games against Germany (November 27) and Japan (December 1). After being eliminated in the round of 16 at this year’s World Cup on penalties by eventual champions France, manager Luis Enrique is expecting to better Spain’s performance.
