On Monday (June 6), The Chicks spoke on The Kelly Clarkson Show to talk about their forthcoming 2022 tour and how divorce inspired them to reach new heights creatively. Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer, winners of a combined 13 GRAMMY Awards, have disclosed their “secret songwriting recipe” as “honesty.”
Clarkson’s difficulty with songwriting follows her recent divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. She warned the renowned trio that she now has to walk a careful line while drawing from her own life.
As a result, she probed The Chicks on the subject of how they handled their vulnerability while adjusting to life in the public eye following a divorce from their spouse. “My first thought was, “Well, I’m getting a divorce. She recently announced that she will be divorcing her husband. I can’t announce that I’m divorcing anymore. When I first decided to obtain a divorce, I was afraid that everyone would think poorly of me.”
Maguire went on to say that after learning about Maines, she felt a little less isolated. Maines was getting a divorce from her spouse Michael Tatabay at the time. With a wry grin on his face, Maines explained, “I was like, ‘Guys, I’m getting a divorce,’ and Martie’s like, ‘I’m having a miserable marriage. We were friends during our separation.
The Chicks’ U.S. tour will begin on June 14 in St. Louis and run through August. The ladies will perform in such illustrious venues as Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, Los Angeles‘s Greek Theatre, and Cleveland, Ohio’s Blossom Music Center.
