Lauren Boebert Accused of Hypocrisy Over Prayers For LGBTQ+ Club Shooting: After offering prayers for the victims of the recent Club Q mass shooting in Colorado Springs, Republican representative Lauren Boebert came under fire from LGBTQ+ advocates in the US for her past anti-LGBTQ+ comments.
The five people killed in the shooting at the LGBTQ+ club happened the night before the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Anaya Robinson, a trans activist and senior policy strategist for the ACLU of Colorado, termed Boebert’s sympathies “disingenuous” and attributed such tragedies to incendiary remarks about the community.
“Specific phrases and statements are what is fueling this violence and this hate,” added Robinson. Course correction Dehumanizing people and groups because of who they are and what they value makes it easier to do them harm. Boebert has a history of advancing anti-LGBTQ+ measures in legislation. He was narrowly re-elected in the 2022 midterm elections and has been in office since 2021.
Boebert submitted a measure in 2021 to stop financing for studies on gender-affirming therapies for young transgender people. Boebert promoted conspiracy-based rumors about the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which she dubbed the “National Institute of Horrors,” and referred to the research as “evil.”
Boebert uses social media to scare people by comparing gender-affirming medical procedures and operations to “kid grooming.” The parallel has been dubbed “dangerous” by supporters of Glaad, the largest lesbian, gay, bis*exual, transgender, and queer media advocacy group in the world.

“Boebert’s vile anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and her glorification of guns and violence is a toxic combination,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, president, and CEO of Glaad, in a statement to the Guardian. “Researchers who study extremism say it’s like a hot pan on a burner with popcorn kernels ready to pop – anyone listening can be encouraged to pop.”
Boebert took the lead in fostering an anti-LGBTQ hate culture in Colorado and elsewhere. The misinformation that Boebert spreads about LGBTQ people is abhorrent. How about Boebert stops her tirade of anti-LGBTQ hate and tries to enact more robust gun safety legislation instead of just sending her thoughts and prayers? Politicians that put our lives in peril to advance their careers are not the kind of politicians we need to represent us all and keep us safe.
“Our hearts are shattered for the victims of the awful event in Colorado Springs, and their loved ones,” Glaad wrote in its official statement after the massacre at Club Q. Numerous people have lost friends and family as a result of this heinous crime, as well as the sense of security felt by an entire town.
The Assistant Secretary for Health is out here trying to "empower" children to become transgender.
The word is "groom", Richard, not empower.
You're grooming them, not empowering them. https://t.co/sBPiaNu0Lj

“You can draw a straight line from the over 300 anti-LGBTQ measures introduced this year, to the dozens of attacks on our community like this one, to the false and disgusting rhetoric about LGBTQ people shared by radicals and magnified across social media.” Transgender people are nearly four times more likely than cisgender people to encounter violent victimization, including rape, s*exual assault, and aggravated or simple assault, according to a study by the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law.
In the significant 2015 case Obergefell v. Hodges, the US supreme court declared same-s*ex marriage to be a constitutional right. Boebert has been open about her opposition to this decision.
The news out of Colorado Springs is absolutely awful.
This morning the victims & their families are in my prayers.
This lawless violence needs to end and end quickly.

Boebert states that she rejects “efforts to redefine marriage as anything other than the union of one man and one woman” on her official government website. Boebert has also targeted drag events, which have grown to be the subject of hateful, far-right conspiracy theories and the object of violent demonstrations. Take your children to CHURCH, not drag bars, she once tweeted.
