In spite of coming within one stroke of joining the PGA Tour on each of his first two attempts, Kenny’s professional career began in 1982. He missed the qualifying round the first two times due to a phone call alerting him that his wife was in labor, but the third attempt was successful.
He borrowed $5,000 from a Franklin businessman on the condition that if his final attempt to obtain a PGA Tour card was successful, he would contribute the money to a Lipscomb University scholarship. He earned his card at Q-school by tying for forty-first place with a two-shot edge.
In order to keep his promise to Lipscomb, Perry and his sponsor agreed on a percentage of 5%. Since then, Perry has done this by establishing a scholarship for residents of Simpson County, Kentucky.
Kenny, who had a difficult time finding luck on the tour and spent many years barely making the cut, finally got his first victory in 1991 at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. He furthered his success three years later by winning the New England Classic at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts.
2003 was one of his best seasons on the tour as he won three titles, including his second Memorial Tournament and the Greater Milwaukee Open. Sadly, the years that followed were fruitless, and Kenny didn’t triumph again until the 2008 Buick Open, where he beat Bubba Watson and Woody Austin by one stroke.
He continued to be successful in 2009, winning other events like the Travelers Championship, the FBR Open, and the John Deere Classic. Leslye (Harris), Justin, and Lindsey are Perry and Sandy Perry’s three children. His son Justin played golf for Western Kentucky University and caddied for his father on multiple occasions. His mother Mildred passed away on October 1, 2009, following a protracted battle with multiple myeloma, a malignancy of the plasma cells in the bone marrow.

She was receiving hospice care when she passed away at her Franklin home at the age of 79. Perry is a deacon and a member of the Franklin Church of Christ in Franklin, Kentucky.
