Canadian-Chinese ex-popstar Kris Wu was found guilty of r*pe and group licentiousness and given a 13-year sentence in a Chinese court. In August 2021, Wu was already detained and accused. Even though the case was purportedly heard in private, the accusations against the former EXO member were quite severe.
According to Variety, Wu won’t be released until 2035 because he will be sent to China after serving his 13-year sentence. Du Meizhou, now 18, accused Wu of raping her when she was just 17 years old when she was intoxicated. Later, Meizhou accused him of acting similarly indecently toward two additional ladies, both underage and drunk.
Chinese police reportedly initially supported the pop star but only a few weeks later was he detained “following inquiry in compliance with the law.” Wu was also said to have forced three women to have sexual relations with him in 2020 when they were all still intoxicated, in addition to other serious claims. Similar charges were also leveled in another meeting he had set up with two inebriated women in 2018.
In addition to his 13-year sentence, Wu was penalized RMB600 million ($83 million) by the Beijing Municipal Tax Service of the State Taxation Administration for tax evasion.
