Recently married couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have opened up about their history together. The singer told a major American news outlet that breaking up with her then-fiancé in 2004 was “the deepest pain of her life.”
The ‘Marry Me’ star admitted that she thought she was going to die following the breakup in an interview with Apple Music 1. To quote one of the exes: “The breakup hurt like hell. It was the worst heartache of my life when we decided to call off the wedding twenty years ago. “I honestly felt like I was going to die,” Lopez was quoted as saying in a Page Six article.
For the next 18 years, I was in a downward spiral and never found my footing again. Twenty years later, however, the story has a happy conclusion. The ending is so unbelievable that it just “would never happen in Hollywood,” according to the Page Six article.
Jennifer Lopez also shared the details of how she and Ben Affleck started dating again about two decades after they had broken up. Of course we weren’t looking to go out in public, ” he said. Page Six said, “But I never hid the fact that for me, there was always the feeling of a real love there, a sincere love there.
The ‘Waiting for tonight’ singer also said that Ben Affleck has always been a “very, very special person” in her life. “When we reconnected, those sentiments for me were still very real,” Jennifer Lopez continued.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck dated for the first time in 2002, which is nearly two decades ago for those who don’t know. The couple became engaged in 2003 and had planned to wed that year, however, they ended their engagement and their marriage some months before the wedding.
The wedding took place in Ben Affleck’s Georgia mansion in August of this year, and about 135 people were invited. Jennifer Lopez is now officially known as Jennifer Lopez-Affleck.

The “Let’s Get Loud” singer tied the knot with her longtime friend and fellow musician Marc Anthony in June of 2004. In 2008, they had twins: a girl named Emme Muiz and a boy named Max Muiz. In 2014, they ended up divorced.
True Love, published in 2014, was J.Lo’s memoir about the time after she and Ben Affleck parted and before she wed Marc Anthony. She wrote, as reported by Page Six, “Ben and I split up at the moment when I believed we were committed to each other forever, it was my first real heartache, it felt like my heart had been wrenched out of my chest.”
“In my darkest hour, I looked for solace in another person, somebody who would make me feel needed and cherished. … In the three days before I was supposed to be saying “I do” to another man, Marc returned to my life.” She speculated that their relationship was her way of avoiding dealing with her emotions after her breakup.
“Perhaps I realized this was only a Band-Aid on the cut, that my wound hadn’t been stitched or cured,” she reflected. “However, I tried to put those thoughts out of my head. Because, after all, life is full of surprises, right? And you have to make a decision based on how you feel right now.”
