On Thursday, Twitter owner Elon Musk hinted that on Friday afternoon, the truth about “what really happened with the Hunter Biden story” and Twitter’s suppression of it in 2020 would be disclosed. His post, “What really happened with the Hunter Biden story suppression by Twitter will be published on Twitter at 5pm ET!,” went viral almost immediately.
He then promised a live Q&A and said, “This will be awesome,” complete with a popcorn emoji. About 40 minutes after 5 o’clock, he said he needed more time to verify certain information. Since taking control in October, Musk has pledged more openness from Twitter, including explaining why the firm took the unprecedented step of restricting and preventing sharing of the New York Post’s report on Hunter Biden‘s laptop in 2020, just weeks before his father was elected president.
Musk warned last month that the public’s trust could only be restored if the truth about the Big Tech cover-up was revealed. He has spoken out against Twitter’s alleged censorship of the New York Post before. He described the move as “very improper” back in April.
Even more seriously, Twitter banned the tabloid’s account for publishing the story, citing a violation of its “hacked materials” policy as the reason. Twitter’s former CEO Jack Dorsey and ex-safety chief Yoel Roth are just two of the high-ranking employees who have come forward since then to say they were wrong.
