Reese Witherspoon Divorce, Age Was a Factor in Their SEPARATION!

Reese Witherspoon Divorce: Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe were a Hollywood power couple in the early 2000s. The Cruel Intentions actors had two children after their 1999 wedding. But the relationship had ended by 2006. After divorcing, Witherspoon later wed agency Jim Toth, and Phillippe had relationships with a number of women, including actors Abbie Cornish and Alexis Knapp.

Why then did the relationship end? Being married when they were relatively young is said to have contributed to the breakup, according to both Phillippe and Witherspoon.

Reese Witherspoon is having one of the best years of her career thanks to her work on Gone Girl and Wild, but the Oscar winner is the first to admit that her path has not been without a few bumps in the road. “I tried to feel well for a few years… When your head feels like scrambled eggs, you can’t truly be creative”, says Witherspoon, 38, in a 60 Minutes interview that will air Sunday on CBS.

Witherspoon experienced remarkable success throughout the middle of the 2000s, both personally and professionally. When she won an Academy Award in 2006 for her portrayal in Walk the Line, she was married to actor Ryan Phillippe and a mother of two (Ava, now 15, and Deacon, now 11). But a few months later, the actress announced she was divorcing, and everything seemed to fall apart.

Witherspoon’s career started to suffer while she worked to repair her personal life. “I was just kind of struggling professionally… The actor acknowledges,” I wasn’t creating stuff I was passionate about. And it was very evident that the public was not responding to whatever I had to say. Then, in 2012, she was mentioned in a New Yorker article that listed performers who were no longer major stars.

According to Witherspoon, “I thought I was reading, like, a profile on another actor.” It truly hurt my sentiments when it said, “The people who are washed-up,” sometime near the conclusion. However, Witherspoon had already begun to reconstruct her life. After giving birth to their son Tennessee in 2012 and getting married to agent Jim Toth in 2011, there is growing speculation that she will win a second Oscar for her work in the film Wild.

Regarding Witherspoon’s unpolished performance in the movie, her co-star Laura Dern told PEOPLE, “It was a remarkable metamorphosis.” She is very excellent, and it was incredibly beautiful to witness. She is legendary. The 60 Minutes profile of Witherspoon will appear on CBS on Sunday, December 21 at 7:30 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.

Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon Married Young

Witherspoon and Phillipe first spoke in 1997 during her birthday celebration. There was an instant connection. She revealed to JANE magazine, “I met him at my 21st birthday party. I’m not sure why, maybe the seven Midori Sours, but I told him, “I suppose you’re my birthday present. He thought it was so flattering, and how embarrassing now that I think about it!”

Soon after, Cruel Intentions, a future teen cult favorite, cast Phillippe in the lead role. Witherspoon was chosen for the role of Annette, the morally upright high school student who is lured by Phillippe’s cunning Sebastian Valmont since he and the movie’s director Roger Kumble thought she would be ideal.

Even though it required some persuasion and Kumble’s consent to have Witherspoon rewrite the Annette character, she eventually agreed. In Charleston, South Carolina, Witherspoon and Phillippe exchanged vows not long after the Cruel Intentions movie premiere. He was 25 while she was 23. Ava was born to them a few months later. Deacon, their son, arrived in 2003.

They declared the end of their marriage in 2006. Witherspoon described the divorce as “extremely humiliating and very lonely” in an Elle interview from 2009.

Age Played A Role At The End of Her First Marriage

Witherspoon also suggested that getting married early led to the breakdown of her relationship with Phillippe in a 2017 appearance on ITV’s Lorraine. When I was 23, I got married, she admitted. By the time I was 27 I had two children. Knowing oneself is beneficial at times.

Witherspoon discussed her feelings of loneliness as a young mother in the Elle interview. At the time, she was the only friend of hers with a newborn and she lived far from her family. But Witherspoon has made it obvious that she is happy with the direction her life has taken.
