On Tuesday morning, Mr. Mahindra posted the picture, which has received more than 20,000 likes and numerous comments. Very humble approach, one user commented. Another person said, “Respect, Respect, and much more Respect for this man, his squad, his nation, and their culture of ethics and humility.”
A third commented, “Japan lost the match due to minor errors. but they raised the bar of Asia on the football map,” while a fourth added, “Japan keeps on impressing with their values.”
Returning to the game on Monday, Japan was defeated by Croatia in a shootout. Although both teams maintained a score of 1-1 throughout the game, the organizers sought a penalty kick out as a tiebreaker. Here, Mario Pasalic converted the go-ahead penalty to advance Croatia. Overall, Croatia managed to score three goals, compared to Japan.
With the defeat, Japan’s hopes of making it to the last eight for the first time in its history were crushed. However, Croatia will now play Brazil in the Round of eight.

As in 2002, 2010 and 2018, Japan left a World Cup in Round 16 for the fourth time. In 2010, the Asian squad also fell to Paraguay in a penalty shootout and lost.
After South Korea on home turf in 2002, Asia has yet to see a second team make it past the Round of 16.
However, Japan created a name for itself in Qatar by shocking two of the most recent World Cup champions, Germany and Spain, in the group stage.
“The players showed a new era of Japanese football, I think,” Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu said. “They should use this upset feeling and try to go further next time.”
“We cannot be superheroes in one go. We have to improve step by step. But Japan is reaching a level where we can play on the world stage.”
