The official cause of death for Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven other people who died when their helicopter crashed into a Calabasas hillside on January 26 was blunt force trauma.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner-office coroner’s released an autopsy report and the results of toxicology tests on Friday. The tests showed that the helicopter pilot, Ara Zobayan, did not have any illegal drugs or alcohol in his blood.
Marijuana, heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine were all tested for. The cause of death was ruled to be an accident, and the person died right away. The part of the investigation that the coroner was in charge of, which started on January 28 is now thought to be over.

A federal investigation is still going on, and civil cases are still being heard. Six doctors from the coroner’s office did autopsies on the nine people who died. Among them was Orange Coast College baseball coach John Altobelli who was 56 years old and died with his wife Keri who was 46 and their daughter Alyssa who was 14.
Bryant hired Christina Mauser, 38, as an assistant coach at his Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks. She was on the helicopter with Payton Chester, 13, a student at the academy, and her mother, Sarah Chester, 45.
When they list cause of death, they just say “blunt force trauma”. For example, Kobe Bryant and everyone else on the helicopter died from “blunt force trauma”, but had many specific injuries. It’s a mechanism of injury.

A report from the National Transportation Safety Board said that the 1991 Sikorsky S-76B helicopter carrying all nine people left John Wayne Airport at 9:06 a.m. on January 26 to go to the academy. At the time, “fog and low clouds obscured the hillside.”
Before it crashed, the helicopter came close to hitting a hillside. Soon after the crash, Vanessa Bryant, who was married to Bryant, sued Island Express Holding Corp. and Island Express Helicopter which employed Zobayan, for wrongful death in Los Angeles County Superior Court in February.
