Although there were traces of cocaine in Anne Heche’s system at the time of the actor’s fatal car accident in California on August 5, the actor’s final autopsy report has revealed that she was not intoxicated.
“There was no evidence of impairment by illicit substances at the time of the crash,” said Sarah Ardalani, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner, in a statement.
Heche, 53, suffered critical injuries after crashing her blue Mini Cooper into a Mar Vista residence, which started a large fire. Later, she died from a “severe anoxic brain injury” that swelled her brain.
On August 11, she was deemed legally dead, and two days later, her life support was turned off.
Firefighters had to wait around 30 minutes for Heche to be freed from her car while it was still on fire. According to the autopsy report, which was made public on Tuesday, Heche had first-degree burns on almost 40% of her body.

Officials from the coroner reported that Heche had no alcohol in her system at the time of the collision. However, it was found that the actor’s blood had traces of benzoylecgonine, the primary metabolite of cocaine.
Heche had previously used cocaine, but not at the time of the accident, according to this.
Fentanyl was found in Heche’s system, according to a toxicology report, although it was “obtained after she got treatment at the hospital and is therefore consistent with therapeutic use.”
Cannabis was also discovered in a urine sample from Heche but was “not detected in the admission blood and is consistent with prior use, but not at the time of the injury,” the report claimed.
