A new family drama, Surviving Summer, is one of the new shows set to debut on Netflix in June 2022, and it’s already making waves in the streaming service’s top 10s. Is there any chance of the second season of Surviving Summer, and if so, what can we hope to see from it? Let’s take a look.
Werner Film Productions, the Australian studio behind Netflix’s Secret City, also made Surviving Summer. Sky Katz, best known for her role on Disney‘s Raven’s Home, stars in this. Kai Lewins, Lilliana Bowrey, and Savannah La Rain also star.
Has Netflix Renewed Surviving Summer for Season 2?
A few weeks after its debut, Netflix has not yet decided what will happen with Surviving Summer. The series’ continuation is a toss-up right now. The show has proven to be successful from the beginning to the end, but historically, Australian productions haven’t had the best of luck getting renewed.
A blog post published on the website of the production company seems to indicate that they are planning to bring the show back: “The production team’s fingers are crossed that Shorehaven will charm viewers as it does Summer and that there will be a second season, ideally with suitable surf.” Lilliana Bowrey said in an Instagram post on June 8 that a decision had not been made about the show.

How Well is Surviving Summer Performing on Netflix?
The show’s viewership numbers are still a bit premature, but we do have a few indicators of its success. On June 14 we got our first official word on the show’s success straight from the source, Netflix. The first three days of the show’s availability on Netflix resulted in less than 8.7 million hours being watched, which meant that the show did not make the top 10 on TV (English) (June 6 through 12).
According to the 20.3M views it received there, the show may have gotten off to a slow start but has been steadily growing in popularity. When looking at raw top 10 data, how is the show doing and where is it succeeding? FlixPatrol tells us that the best-performing regions for the series are Eastern Europe, the Nordics, Australia, and New Zealand.
According to their numbers, the show likely reached its highest point on June 7 (four days after its premiere), when it gained 363 total points. The show is also successful on Netflix Kids, where it ranks in the top 10 shows. Keep in mind that FlixPatrol does not cover all regions, but a heat map will show you where the show is performing best in the top 10s.
If we look at other metrics, the show appears to have reached its peak at number 108 on IMDb‘s MovieMeter, up from number 1,021 after its first week. As of this writing, there are 823 reviews for the show on IMDb, giving it an average rating of 6.2 out of 10. Reviews were mixed, calling it everything from bland to one of the best Australian shows ever.

What to Expect From Surviving Summer Season 2 on Netflix?
Obviously, if the show is picked up for a second season, everything will pick up right where episode 10 left off. Here’s a rundown of what actually occurred in episode 10 in case you forgot: While the crew is trying to make it onto the state team, Margot shows up to bring Summer back home. During her period, Bodhi runs into some difficulties. As the story progresses, Ari decides.
Just like the first season, the second would begin in New York, with Summer facing a new obstacle or being compelled to visit her new friends in Australia. Of course, the roles could be reversed; could her friends move to New York with her for the upcoming second season? What happens next is up in the air.
