Maggie and Negan Will Return in ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’

Despite AMC’s best efforts, The Walking Dead franchise continues to be pumped. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) didn’t need their own show, and neither did the audience. But since we’re guaranteed to get one, we might as well enjoy it.

I’ll most likely be watching to see what happens next in New York on The Walking Dead. Information about this prequel has been trickling out for a time. The tone and personalities of the show are still shrouded in mystery, but at least we’re getting a taste of them now.

Western horror in the vein of “Fear the Walking Dead” is not what you can expect. Now that you know The Walking Dead: Dead City is coming to NYC, you can picture how desolate the Big Apple must appear in the TWD universe. We need to know what the spinoff has in store for us. Okay, let’s check that out!

The Walking Dead: Dead City Release Window And Plot

Since production on The Walking Dead: Dead City began in July, we won’t have to wait too long. Season one premieres in April 2023 on AMC and AMC+. Beginning on that date, a new episode of The Walking Dead will premiere every week for six episodes.

The new season appears to be a return to form for the series characters with a darker tone. Evidently, Negan is also reverting back to his former ways. Finally! When “old-school” Negan (as Jeffrey Dean Morgan put it) is paired with a Maggie who will never trust him, you get a lot of tension.

Who, honestly, wants to see these two always act in unison? It wouldn’t have made as much sense for them to go on the trip separately. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who starred in The Walking Dead: Dead City, are the main attractions of this offshoot.

Unless we’re missing something, it’s unlikely that any of the original cast members from The Walking Dead will appear in this prequel. In 2023, fans will be able to tune in to a spinoff centered on Daryl (Norman Reedus).

Maggie and Negan won’t be completely alone, though. To accompany them are:

  • Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong
  • Željko Ivanek as The Croat
  • Jonathan Higginbotham as Tommaso
  • Mahina Napoleon as Ginny
  • Trey Santiago-Hudson as Jano
  • Charlie Solis as “The Bartender”

A few actors have been linked to the project, but their roles have yet to be revealed.
