Who is the New Superman? DC Fans Wonder Who Will Replace Henry Cavill

The time when Henry Cavill served as the Man of Steel is over. Only a month prior, Henry Cavill’s Superman was reintroduced in the post-credits sequence of Black Adam, facing up against Dwayne Johnson.

After that, Cavill declared that he would return for Man of Steel 2, and Johnson hinted at a Black Adam vs. Superman project. All of that desire fulfillment seems to have been wasted when DC Studios’ co-CEOs, James Gunn and Peter Safran, were appointed by Warner Bros.

On Twitter, James Gunn revealed that he had met with Henry Cavill to break the sad news that WB will be reinventing Superman, which would mean Cavill would no longer be playing the Man of Steel. There have been rumors that Cavill would later portray a different DC superhero, though.

“I have met with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” Henry Cavill wrote in a statement on Instagram. “After being told by the studio to announce my return in October, before their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck and the happiest of fortunes. For those who have been by my side through the years….we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember… Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”
