Donald Glover is going to join Sony Pictures’ Marvel universe as the star and producer of a movie about the Spider-Man villain the Hypno-Hustler. The movie will be based on a comic book character. The project is just getting started, so there is no script or director yet. However, Myles Murphy, who is the son of Eddie Murphy, is set to write the screenplay.
The Hypno-Hustler first showed up in Marvel comics in 1978. He is one of Spider-less Man’s well-known bad guys, and he can put people to sleep with his guitar. He goes by the name Antoine Desloin during the day. He is the lead singer of a band called the Mercy Killers, and they use their music to rob the people who come to see them.

As with all of Sony’s other live-action Marvel movies, Spider-Man probably won’t be in this one either. But Glover’s involvement is important for Spider-Man fans because the actor and musician have been a fan favorite to play the web-slinger ever since an article by writer Marc Bernardin in 2010 said that Spider-Man doesn’t have to be white.

Glover finally showed up in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in 2017 as Aaron Davis, the uncle of Miles Morales, the Black teen who becomes Spider-Man and was introduced in Marvel comics in 2011. Glover also did Miles’s voice in the Disney XD show “Ultimate Spider-Man,” which aired in 2015.
After “Venom,” which came out in 2018, the Hypno-Hustler is the latest Spider-Man character to be turned into a full-length movie. “Morbius” in 2022, “Kraven the Hunter” in 2023, and “Madame Web” in 2024.
