Despite its well-liked, the contentious Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why ended in 2020. We got to experience how challenging it can be to live within a high school and the difficulty that results from attempting to get past trauma across all four seasons.
Some fans have attempted to identify the source of the events in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why and the person who served as Hannah Baker’s inspiration since it appears so natural. It turns out that various sources influenced the plot and the character. What is known is listed below.
Who Is The Hannah Baker?
Hannah Baker doesn’t exist. The movie 13 Reasons Why is based on the 2007 book by Jay Asher of the same name. Hannah from this book is the inspiration for the television character Hannah. She is a high school student who is just trying to get by. She does, however, leave behind a set of tapes to justify her killing herself.

However, Hannah’s persona was influenced by a genuine person. Jay claims that Hannah’s account was influenced by a relative who attempted suicide when she was approximately the same age, though he doesn’t specify who this relative is. He has covered a lot of ground that has influenced him. Marquette Wire claims he also sat down with ladies, including his wife and friends, to inquire about their high school memories and feelings.

Is The film “13 Reasons Why” Based On A True Story?
Although based on the same-named book, 13 Reasons Why isn’t necessarily a factual story. Instead, after witnessing a family member attempt suicide, the author was moved by the various emotions and thoughts of the women in his life, and he used those to create the fictional universe that Hannah comes from.

When Jay went to Edina High School in Edina, Minnesota, in 2016, he mentioned that a vacation to Vegas inspired Hannah’s tapes. He took an audio tour of an Egyptian tomb, where a different audio recording accompanied each stop. At the end of the trip, he added, “I thought I want to create a book set up like this where you have sides of cassette tapes instead of chapters.”
Jay himself, who doesn’t enjoy reading depressing books, served as another source of inspiration for the books. Despite how disturbing his novel might be, he used devices like pacing and tension to keep readers interested. He said to Edina High, “To this day, I honestly don’t like reading sad literature, and the book was going to be depressing. “My intention while writing it was to make it difficult for someone like myself, who doesn’t like sad books, to put it down.”
