It’s no surprise that NBC has given the crime thriller The Blacklist another season, as its combination of twist-filled scripts, fast-paced direction, and brilliant performances has kept it going strong since it first aired in 2013. But what should we anticipate in the next section? Everything you need to know about The Blacklist’s tenth season is right here.
The Blacklist Season 10 Release Date: When Will Episodes Air?
Recently, Tom Scutro, the location manager for The Blacklist, spoke with Westchester County Tourism & Film and revealed: “To put it simply, it’s been a fantastic run. Incredible to think this started in 2013. Except for the first episode, I’ve been involved with the show the whole time.
We can’t wait to get back to work on our tenth season, which will begin after Labor Day.” Production on Season Nine started last year around the same time as Labor Day (the first Monday in September; the fifth in 2022).
The Blacklist has a history of simultaneously filming and airing episodes, so if the show’s usual production schedule holds, the premiere of season 10 could occur as early as this coming October. In the meantime, we’ll be crossing our fingers.
UPDATE: Crossing our fingers didn’t work, the show will air on NBC on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 8/7c.
Fans will find that to be very exciting information. In theory, shifting the show’s airdate from Fridays to Sundays will attract a larger audience. Even though it will be up against NCIS: Los Angeles and The Equalizer on CBS, this is a more convenient time slot for a show like this.
Whether or not the transition is successful, we may still see a Blacklist film. NBC’s CEO, Jeff Shell, believes “that construct of the windowing combined with the fact that streamers really want movies, movies are driving platforms” has improved the movie industry’s bottom line (via The Express).
We’re buying all this content and putting it in Peacock to launch the streaming service because [NBCU is] producing twice as many movies as our nearest competitors. The Blacklist airs on both NBC and Peacock, so if the show is canceled as a result of the Sunday night test, a movie could continue the story.
The Blacklist Season 10 Cast: Who’s in It?
All viewers can talk about after the exciting season nine finale is who they hope to see return for season ten. Although no cast member has been officially announced as of August 2022, fans can likely count on series star and executive producer James Spader to reprise his role as criminal mastermind-turned-supergrass analyst Raymond “Red” Reddington.
Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff), Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix), and Dembe Zuma (Hisham Tawfiq) are three other major characters who could return. Amir Arison, who played FBI Special Agent Aram Mojtabai in the pilot episode, and Laura Sohn, who played FBI agent Alina Park in seasons six and seven, will not be returning for the next installment (via Deadline).
Arison “could not pass up” the opportunity to make his Broadway debut in The Kite Runner, so he is reportedly leaving to do so. Meanwhile, Sohn has decided to leave to focus on other projects, the nature of which remains unknown.
Arison wrote an emotional tweet about how “The Blacklist has changed my life.” He said the show had helped him make “lifelong friends,” among other benefits. It has not been lost on me how fortunate I am to have had the opportunity to work and grow in a role with such a remarkable group of talented people for the past nine years.
As Arison’s character’s exit story is that he is leaving the FBI and moving to Brooklyn, the door is left open for him to make guest appearances or even a full return in the future; the series finale even made a nod to his next project by suggesting that he might see a Broadway show while in New York.
The Blacklist Season 10 Plot: What Will Happen?
The season nine finale gave viewers a decent glimpse into the story’s trajectory, even though the season’s premise remains under wraps for the time being. By the season’s end, it became clear that Red’s ostensibly trustworthy advisor, Marvin Gerard (Fisher Stevens), had actually been the one to kill his wife, Elizabeth (Megan Boone).
However, despite being found out and killed, he still gave Red something as a parting gift, which backfired in a major way. Marvin told Wujing (Chin Han), one of the first Blacklisters from season one, that he was caught because Red and the FBI were working together, and then gave Wujing a list of other Blacklisters that Red helped put away when the two of them eventually crossed paths in prison.
Wujing is now on a mission of vengeance, and he has compiled a list of other Blacklisters he plans to convince to help him track down and kill Red. In season 10, it appears that Red will be the recipient of the punishment he has been seeking.
